Right. And now I remember Guy did not hear me as he was behind us. That is the same tree in Bill's #9 reflection photo above. As soon as I saw it I remembered his photo. How often does that happen, considering how far out they were, and this was just a chance that we were in the same place.

    Batsto Forge

Yes, with notice they do. That would be good....I could buy you a sandwich and beer at your favorite local tavern after.

    Batsto Forge

Okay, now its becoming more clear to me. I think an afternoon trip is in order. With the map in hand it will make more sense to me. If you want to do it some afternoon when you aren't working in December it would be cool.

    Forked River Mountains

Ben, The Forest Service is creating 12 foot firebreaks on each side of the road so they can get big vehicles in there in case of fire. They likely see it as a place to make a stand too, to try and stop a fire.

    Batsto Forge

Gabe, somehow that seems natural to me. Wouldn't the lighter impurities have already been drawn out during the furnace blast at Batsto? I remember the time you and I were in that area, but I don't recall you pointing out the location of the forge to me. Did you ever think of hand-drawing a...

    canoeing and camping

Now that you mention it, a guy was flying in circles during lunch this saturday out by springers brook. We oughta restrict that, like they do at the Grand Canyon.

Have you seen this road? Can you help me find this?

I'm surprised the pines did not holler.....RAPE!....Help me! I was on a hill right near there in about 1978 or so, riding my 125 Combat Wombat. I lived in Lakehurst at the time. When I moved into Bamber in 1982 it was gone. Just like they do in West Virginia, hacked the top right off...

I had heard the DEP did this in the early 80's but I was skeptical. August 4th 1981

Obviously a make-work project for the sport of it.

Oh No, there is a spider in my pants!!

Another sunny day....where you just cannot stay indoors, right? That is a sedge you are seeing Jeff. It is Scirpus cyperinus. The local name is.......uh.....umm.....it will come to me yet. Oh, yeah....Wool Grass. But it is not a member of the grass family, so the name is a misnomer.

The Ore Pond: A PBX Exploration

Jeff, you may have missed this in your 2008 post, but you gave very detailed location instructions to Gabe on where you originally found that slag: "The timber in the water was about 15-20 feet upstream from the slag. The pits were on the western shore directly across from the slag, and then...

It was a very good day. I'm surprised I'm the only one who gave it a 9.0!

    Evans Bridge memorial

Yes, that is the stone I found on our Wading River Big Trip. Guy had contacted someone who knew about it. I found it tumbled over in the brush.

But, note this link in the historical section (next to last sentence). Are you limited to the 1940s? You can't tell where they got their info though. http://nynjctbotany.org/njoptofc/doverfrg.html

No, can't be. The two on Cedar Creek were Dover Forge and Ferrago. Long gone by the turn of the century.

    bay days

Super Bill....just super-duper photo's. I like the perspective in the first one. Very well composed. And the reeds and sunset (2nd from bottom) actually made me squint as if the sun would hurt my eyes.

    Rails At Double Trouble

Very cool Guy. I guess this was a dry harvest bog from the old days with no dykes to help them get close. Remember those old photo's Ben posted of the pickers at Whitesbog? Maybe they used them too.
