    Blue Fishing

Nice fishing Ed! I love bluefishing and used to set up trips each year in my office with the Mary M III and the White Star out of Barnegat. I am having one of my slowest years ever on my boat for fluke and blues off Cape May. I usually have a freezer full of flounder fillets and plenty of...

    Those darn flies

The deer flies are pretty bad down here and one thing that amazes me is the concentrations of the flies in localized spots. When I walk each night I cover a 3 mile loop and I know which spots along the loop are going to be bad. The same spots are bad each year too. I don't see any one...

    Blueberries? Anyone?

True blueberries are highbush blueberries, Vaccinium corymbosm. They are usually in fairly wet soils and grow up to 10-12' high What most of us down here call a huckleberry are either of two species common to the pines: Dwarf Huckleberry the most common in my woods, Gaylussacia dumosa and...

    Blueberries? Anyone?

Jim All the roads leading from Quaker bridge to the east are very passable without 4wd. A few roads leading north toward Mannis from Pushline Road are not passable in winter due to water holes but are bone dry in the summer. Scott

    Blueberries? Anyone?

Mark, I have been keeping an eye on the wild berries on my nightly walks down here and tonight I can say that the lowbush or huckleberries are at their absolute peak. I added a half hour to my walk just eating the huckleberries at the west end of Wharton Ave. I have checked a couple wet spots...

    Beer (again)

Who drinks Miller? :) Are South Africans the ones that chew tobacco and drive the lifted 4x4's? :)

    Beer (again)

You have no idea Piney Maestro! My older son bought me a case of the Dogfishhead 90 Minute IPA for Father's Day and enjoying that has been just about the high point of my 50 years on the planet. A good second place is Wolaver IPA by Otter Creek. I took my younger son out fishing on my boat...

    Beer (again)

I am truly saddened by this acquisition. :( There is nothing wrong with an ice cold Bud. I don't think I can drink it anymore knowing its owned by cold, heartless Eurotrash. Check out Inbev's corporate philosophy: http://www.inbev.com/go/brands.cfm They're all about "positioning", brand...

    The Ramble Inn

Uncle Mikes, in its waning years, was a hang for the Warlocks MC. I used to hit there for cold sixers on the way to the shore back when it was Michener's Tavern. circa 1977

    The Ramble Inn

Ain't the prison system a beauty? When you read the artilcle about his conviction, the State makes it sounds like he will rot in hell for his wrongdoings. The prison system, on the other hand, couldn't wait to put him back out to try again.

    The Ramble Inn

As it turns out, he got major time on the fire deal. http://www.nj.gov/oag/newsreleases06/pr20060908a.html But lo and behold, he is out already. Just agree to the terms and type in Siligato. https://www6.state.nj.us/DOC_Inmate/details?x=1361327&n=0

    The Ramble Inn

Sam Siligato was the namesake. His latest escapade was burning down a building for insurance money. Here is an excerpt from a post I did in 2004 on this site: 05-15-04, 07:20 AM "Sam Siligato, the owner of the Silly Gator, was just recently charged with having a large building torched to...

    boating

Make sure you are aware that a "boat license" is not the same as a Boating Safety Certificate. The boat license, a long running money making scam perpetuated by the NJMVC, ONLY entitles you to operate a power vessel on non-tidal fresh water. That's it. A boating safety certificate is required...

    boating

Freshwater lakes allowing a gas motor in South Jersey are rare. Union Lake and Lake Lenape are the only ones I can think of. Lenape has a complex set of rules and requires insurance. Make sure you have current boat registration, your Boating Safety Certificate and all your required safety...

    Blueberries? Anyone?

Here is my trip report from January. http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/showthread.php?t=4916 You can drive to within 50 yds of the first one and walk to the one that you marked with the bubble. The roads leading to the foundations are pretty well obliterated.

    Sweetwater Casino on Fire!

The following is the very short list of activities that are exempted from Pinelands Commission review, taken right from the Holy Pinelands Comprehensive Managemnet Plan. You will note that the reconstruction of NONRESIDENTIAL structures (other than agricultural) that have been destroyed or...

    2 miles to L.G.

Not a thing, based on a roadside view. Looks excatly like the pics posted 6-7 months ago. My wife and I road the Harley down there last night and it looks like work is very slow or stagnant.

    2 miles to L.G.

You said it. The Atsion Mansion restoration is an embarassment so far. Meanwhile, we get to watch the other structures in Atsion go from standing pieces of history to piles of weathered debris.

    Sweetwater Casino on Fire!

The herpers would have loved the place too. It one of the few places that used to have frog legs on the menu. :) They used to toss them on the seafood combo platters years ago. Not sure if they still did. If ever anything tasted like chicken, it is frog legs. It is a shame to see the place...

    Sweetwater Casino on Fire!

Just heard on Action News a few minutes ago (6:05 a.m.) that the Sweetwater Casino is on fire. They just showed an aerial view and it looks pretty bad. I hope they save Gabe's piano!!
