    Cedar Harvesting Article

Not exactly a newspaper article but interesting nonetheless. http://timberbuysell.com/Community/DisplayNews.asp?id=3336 This was sent to me by Y-Buc-Bill as a followup to the sawmill article. I graduated from Rutgers U Cook College in '81 with a degree in natural resource management and...

    Hunting Seasons Begin 9-13-08

My main purpose was to remind the members of the impending shared use of our woods by hunters. As German said, there is little reason to fear for your safety as hunting has one of the lowest accident rates of any outdoor sport. I appreciate the respect of others when I am hunting and I respect...

    Hunting Seasons Begin 9-13-08

This Saturday marks the beginning of the hunting seasons with the opening of fall bow in several deer management zones (DMZ). Zones 19 and 25 are included in the early season and encompass big chunks of Wharton. The statewide bow opener is October 4th. Here is the full deer schedule...

The End of Sawmills In NJ

http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/186/story/250716.html Interesting article about the waning of the sawmill industry here in NJ. Good 'ole NJ regulating people and an industry out of existence. Scott

I jumped over the 50 hump last Friday. Doesn't feel any different at this point. :)

    1st Time to Jemima Mt

Y-Buc-Bill is one of the most respectful and respected men that I know. I truly value him as a friend. Bill has lived a lot of pines history and remains active in sportsmen's and offroad enduro interests in his young 80's. Sorry about the age giveaway Bill. :) I hope I can hold a candle to...

    Bear

I hope you didn't misconstrue my thoughts Guy. I don't think the bears' presence in SJ is a rumor, I just don't believe they are being transported here by F&W.

    Bear

Yeah, it's all part of the mysterious hidden agenda of NJ Fish and Wildlife to transport and disperse all types of animals throughout the state. Coyotes were the first part of the agenda. Supposedely the farmers were supporting F&W to bring them in to cut down the deer population. Bullsh-t...

Forest Fire Burns 30 Acres In Camden County - Wharton St. Forest

We had all of our windows open last night and we woke up from a dead sleep from the smell of the smoke at 2:30 a.m. It was hanging thick with no air moving at all.

    bay days

Beautiful photos. I love driving through those areas, especially Sea Breeze, in the dead of winter. I used to crab out of Husteds on Back Creek a little south of there. The last time I saw that road in your pic it was partially in the bay. The Dix tract is a great late season rabbit hunting...

    Atsion Dam To Be Replaced

http://www.courierpostonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080816/NEWS01/808160354/1006 It will be a shame to see the current one go. They will save the gate wheels though, as a decorative touch for the new one. I sure hope this project doesn't exhibit the same progress as the mansion...

    Blueberries? Anyone?

Yes, the high bush is the one that is cultivated commercially. See my post above. Be sure you know what you are eating because there are other things in the woods with blue berries that are not edible.

Batsto and Atsion: A Quick Saturday Adventure

Nice little trip with the youngster Ben. I took my two boys on more woods rides than they will ever remember but I will never forget. They do appreciate it now. I too am amazed at the apparent lack of supervision and motivation for the contractor to complete these restorations. If it was a...

    Cicadas

When I was a teenager in the 70's we had a hatch of these around the base of a gray birch in my yard: (a.k.a. the 17 year locust) http://biology.clc.uc.edu/steincarter/cicadas.htm Cool as hell and the casings made great gags when you hung them on people's shirts and yelled "WHOA what the...

    Speedwell, Dutchtown Bogs

Jerseyman recently gave us some definitive information on the origin of the name Miller's bogs here in Pestletown. http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/showthread.php?t=5408&highlight=millers+bogs&page=2 Every long time local in this area considers the bogs at the end of the road in Pestletown as...

    Blue Fishing

Ain't too many things that don't come out of the smoker tastin' good. I brine deer and fish the same with water, brown sugar, kosher salt and fresh garlic. Once deer or fish is on the rack (not together), I hit them with JO Seasoning (similar to Old Bay but better) and run the black pepper...
