    Red Devil?

Wow, it's been a while since I checked back on this post. I remember the dog park when it was Slim's Ranch back in the day. Does anyone remember when or why it closed down? Never heard of Gabriel Davies Tavern until now. I'll definitely have to check it out!

    Red Devil?

Although not in the Pine Barrens, this past weekend my wife and I were geocaching at Timber Creek Park. Not as scenic as the Pines, but a nice place to bring your dog, etc. Anyway, I started googling this place and found this blog: http://thenewparkras.blogspot.com I am not debating the...

Planning a kayaking & camping trip input needed

Thanks Guy! The wife and I have been looking for a place like this. I'll look into it and see what condition the place is in these days.

Planning a kayaking & camping trip input needed

So it's a private campground and they don't mind if you bring a cooler with some beer? Not trying to get intoxicated or anything, but there's nothing like sitting around a campfire with a cold one!

Are there any private Pine Barrens based outdoor gun clubs?

I really only shoot and build flintlock rifles from the Revolutionary war period. That's really my only interest, but I will plink with a .22 from time to time... I am currently a member of a wonderful club dedicated to black powder weapons, however it is in Lancaster, PA, so quite a hike if I...

    White Deer

Saw one about 20 years ago at my parent's house in Blackwood. It reminded me of the C.S. Lewis Narnia books that I was reading at the time. :p

    Save Batsto Mansion!

Very well said. NJ's government has failed for as long as I can remember, but this is just the icing on the cake.

    what is this from

I believe it. I guess about 25 years ago when my parents moved to a newly developed neighborhood of Blackwood, NJ. We'd find all kinds of seashells right in our new back yard. I really don't think it was all that long ago that New Jersey was under water.

    Hunters

I'm actually building a muzzle loader now. It's a Lancaster County flint lock in the style of Isaac Haines in .54cal, around 1770's. Tonight I finished inletting most of the breech and will bend the tang and inlet it tomorrow. Even in pieces I just stare at its beauty and can't wait to see...

    High Tension Line

I was out with a few friends last winter by the power lines in Atco. Seeing as they were in no way marked, I didn't feel it was illegal. Two guys parked off trail and we sat around and talked a bit, but it was just dirt anyway. No rare plants being squashed... Anyway, along comes two...

    New OS for Mac Users

Yes, I think it would be advantageous for Apple to try and make the MACS a little more friendly in the Wintel evironment. They've made some great leaps forward by switching to the Intel processors and supporting BootCamp so that the machines can run WinXP. I installed VirtualPC on a Power PC...

Are they posted? I don't get how they expect you to know who owns every square inch of property.

    New OS for Mac Users

The Time Machine feature reminds me of XP's System Restore. I don't think you can selectively choose the items to restore in XP though... As a network admin with about 50 MACs on my network, I was really hoping the next OS rev would include some decent integration into Active Directory.

    Sssssnakeheads!?

Last summer at a local lake (not Pine Barrens), I saw a Red Devil and someone's rather large Koi. The lake is known in these parts as 'Puppyland', easily accessible to people wanting to drop off their unwanted aquatic pets. :(

A "town" NOBODY knows about....except me.

Funny that this thread pops up now. I had a 'settlement' just like this in the woods behind my house. My neighbor's kid's pet rabit got loose and they were out in the woods looking for it. While looking for it, they stumbled upon the 'settlement'. The neighbors in the area were somewhat...

Went fishing in remote areas today

Oh, and with regards to the snapping turtle... I've always wanted to get a tube and go fishing in that, or use waders. Seeing how curious turtles are in general and how aggresive the snappers are, I've resorted around that. Have you ever had any reason to fear the same thing? I'm just not...

Went fishing in remote areas today

Those are terrific pics, Jeff! As the weather was terrific today, I really wanted to get out and do some fishing as well. What tackle do you prefer for the pickerel in The Pines? I really like using ultra light gear with 4lb. test, but pickerel teeth easily slice through that. I think I'm...
