A point of interest is that this fire burned right through a Natural Heritage Priority site; the West Plains Fireshed Macrosite. Dead center right through it. This is a globally imperiled natural community of pitch pine-shrub oak barrens and pine plains vegetation. Without fire, it would be gone for good.

There is a fire in Vinland causing problems on 55. That seems far away for them to be racing so there must be something going on closer.

I just came down 55 from vineland a couple hours ago and saw and smelled nothing. I got on at landis and headed south.Maybe the fire was further north?

I looked on the video online and they did not go that far with the drone. I did see something that looked like a burned car but that most likely was my imagination. I will see if I can find it again on the video.

okay, your right.I haven't been out there in awhile.had to orient myself.Rock pile is way off se of there.I wonder if it's exposed now.If the fire went over it you'll be able to see it from the road

There is a forest fire on Ft.Dix/Pemberton Twp. border. Near where the Kinkora RR ran through. 1200 acres so far.

04/03/19 @ 1430 hrs- SECTION B6- Joint Base McGuire/Dix/Lakehurst, Pemberton Twp section off Juliustown Rd. At about 2:30 pm, NJ Forest Fire crews were requested. Huey Delta 5 also responded in with the bucket. A base spokesperson states current size is about 1,200 acres and is contained. Crews will continue to work through the night. Updated 0630 hrs 04/04/19.

I've often wondered when viewing an aerial of a wildfire the narrow streaks or bands of trees that survive the crown fire. I'm sure the underbrush is burned. Then you see tiny "islands" of trees with green crowns while all the surrounding is scorched earth. I'm not talking about swamps or water courses.

If I were to bet on it, I'd say its due to the wind of the day combined with the heat rising. It may have something to do with the fire sucking up all the oxygen out of the air so quickly that some areas are left without one of fire's 3 essential ingredients.
