I understand now. That photo of yours sure makes it look different. I believe I visited it when there was less vegetation.

I guess this is some type of fern. They were growing along the ground. DSC00817.jpg

That is a member of the Genus Lycopodium trying to make its way in the world, but he is not finding it a great habitat. Do you see that green plant in the upper right corner? That is Lycopodium digitatum. I don't think its related to the plant you see, but it could be. They like to grow long runners just under the leaf litter.

Tom and Bob,
Is this plant common? I recognized it as a cultivated plant that I recall as "sea holly". I do not remember seeing it previously on the Mullica.....but then I have never been to this spot at this time in the past. It is beautiful and different.

and with the ironweed.....

Tom....I saw your coral fungus and it is growing in my woods as well. Here is another oddity I came upon this year. There is an orange variety also.

I can't see them in the post, but I looked in your gallery Turtle. You mean the Rattlesnake Master, right? Yes, it is common on the lower Mullica only. I have seen it on the lower Wading too. But it is not seen at all in the heart of the pines that I know of.

Yes Bob, that is it. I wonder why the photos don't come up? I've probably omitted another important step in the photo pasting process....this happens to me occasionally.:bang: So it must be a transitional plant, growing where truly brackish water is....not too much salinity/fresh? I'll mark it and keep an eye on its success each year. It is confined to only one area, but seems to be doing well there. Thank you for the info. Next time I'm on the lower Wading I will keep my eyes open.

I have fixed the links so anyone who wanted to view them should look back a few posts.

oji,
Yeah......please consider the purchase. Being on the water opens up a whole other world of exploring whatever it is that you enjoy looking for. Besides, unless you are on the upper Wading on a weekend you will never have the traffic of a roadway in NJ. I tend to stick to weekdays or weekday eves. for my travels. I have some steady standby put-in spots that allow me hours of exploration time along our beautiful waterways. Bel Haven runs some sales on used kayaks.....they will even allow you to try them out on the lake before purchasing one. 965-2205. I know that a few friends on site have utilized their services. Good luck and enjoy!

Yes, I was on the Mullica from Crowley's to Green Bank Bridge wandering shorelines and "criks" this week. (hot like hell, but heavenly!)
