I met Karen after I did a review of Whispers in the Pines for this site. She has been a supporter of NJPineBarrens.com as well as a supporter of my own writing and a good friend. I will really miss her.

I've had several long, enjoyable phone conversations with Karen in recent months and she visited our office barely a month ago. It was a shock to learn of her illness and now such sad news she is gone. The Pine Barrens has certainly lost a true friend.

Karen will be missed. She provided refreshing new ways to look at the Pine Barrens, its inhabitants, and its advocates. Too bad she never got to see the completion of the latest project, Legendary Locals of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, which had a combination of contemporary and historical characters. To her credit, she recognized that the Pine Barrens continued south of the Mullica despite her northern base. There were so many good candidates for the latest book that a sequel was planned. I hope Andrew, her business partner, is able to carry the torch.

I had recently spent a most lovely afternoon with Karen. She had just learned of the progression of her illness. I will miss her sparkling personality and devotion to the area. She promoted the Pines with love and introduced many people to its unique nature. Peace to her family and friends.
