Scott, the chevelle came with a 454 at one time? Or was that just the designation of the model---engine was a 427? Down right dangerous weapon at that size engine.

G/M made both those model engine sizes.
And yes, a big block Chevelle was offered and a much coveted car.
Off the factory floor a frightening creature (and even with factory air!)
* Sorry, saw Chris and Scott answered as well.
I have only known a couple cars up close with the magic 4-2-7
Nice.

I pretty much always liked small blocks prefferring the RPM's over Torque that were attained easier at less $$$.
I had a '67 Shortbed, Fleetside Chevy truck that I just loved fitted out with
a 283, 4-speed stick, and a tall gear in the rear. Pheeenominal!
I have had many fun smallblocks in many cars and had no problem swapping them into other GM cars. I had an Olds that was an interesting convert.

Memories.

"Six pack" The neighbor kid had one.
Three two barrels stacked behind each other on a high rise intake.
Yee F'in haw!

My dad had this rig on another motor. Very cool but man, a linkage nightmare and don't let anything be setup not just right. Pretty cool to see in action though.

I had to add something to this thread. I love the car pics, especially the old stuff.

I know this is a bit different but it's a pic of a car we run at Atco. 582 cubic inches over 900 HP. Ran 8.50's at 164 MPH last year. Goes through the traps at 8100 RPM. All motor, no nitrous or supercharger. It's also fuel injected, no carbs! Going to 632 cubes this year!

Just thought it was a cool pic and Atco is in the Pines!

That is a great Photo trailhead. I can almost smell the exhaust and rubber on the track. That is some serious horsepower.

When I was looking for my mopar in 1982, I ended up at a middle class neighborhood in Newark. A guy was selling a 70 Challenger R/T special edition with the 426 HEMI and automatic slapstick transmission. The interior was all leather and the color was burnt hemi orange. He wanted $5,500 for it. His wife said he wasn't home, but that I could look at it in the backyard. Sure enough, it was there. But me? Oh no, I was stupid, I let it go because I was too anxious to go look at the 383. Please kick me in my butt!

PS: Ed, nice cuda. Was that color dark tan poly? That was my original color. Remember the 340 T/A's?

My 1970 340 Cuda with Hurst pistol grip, I really liked that shifter. The picture was taken at Chatsworth Lake abuut 1972. I sure wish I still had it.

Very Nice Ed!! My best friend in HS, his big brother had a '71 cuda. Not a convertible and no where near as nice. He was going to give it to me or something but it never happened. He had nitros (spelling) hooked up in the thing and it pretty much destroyed the engine. I remember it would do wheelies when he kicked that nitros in.

I wish I was alive and of driving in the late 60's, I love old muscle cars. I have had 2 old cars, I had a 73 ford maverick grabber with a 302 and 65 ford falcon futura sport with a 289. Now my toy is a 1987 Z28 which will have QQ plates in 3 years, just not the same as a 60's-early 70's car. A nice old muscle car is just to much money now days.
