My Vette and the waters of the Barrens or the N.J. shore did me just fine for many years.

Another fast and crappy scan. Of all the wheels I've had, and all I've had into them, this is the one I miss the most. Frame up build of what became the most evil thing I ever owned. In many ways. Motor, suspension, lowering, sound system, name it, I did it. Gawwwd how we throw away $$$ on a project. No more to say.

It's the one I told you about over the summer. It's not your daddy's Olds.
It's a conglomeration of (3) years, one of them a Hurst, with a whole lot of other stuff Chevy buried in there. It only had one name on it... In the end I called it "Unforgiven"

I got so sick of people trying to figure out what kind of tricked out Monte it was. Bahhh!

Dude (as those of your generation like to call each other), I see that the air temperature at Seaside will be about 45 degrees Saturday, with a mean brisk wind driving it down to...say...freezing (can you say freeeeeeezing!). That, coupled with a 40 degree ocean water temperature will make you wish you were in that corvette snuggled up with your beautiful wife with the heater blasting.

My beautiful wife has already handed me my ass in advance for the 9th year running (she didn't do year one with me). She loathes the cold!!!
She beeeatches about it but in the end after I do the dunkin' deed, we, and the kids, and friends along always have a good afternoon in Seaside or up Point Pleasant at the aquarium and then blast down to Fred & Ethel's in Smithville for dinner if not Applebee's in Brick.
Back in the day, I took the vette everywhere tops off in the fall only (damned sun would burn your coconut in the summer) and on the way home from LBI crank the heat. On a cool night, the smallish cabin in the vette had some funky effect where you stayed warm yet the top off kept a cold venturi effect going on you. It was a strange sensation. kept you alert but not freezing.

Jim, that is one guady ride. I don't mean to disrespect it, of course, but by 1978 muscle cars were waning for 6-7 years. Whoever owns that one on the link gussied up the body and interior, but did not touch the engine. That was always last, and very often forgotten. I had to remove my engine and do what I could in the engine compartment before I got my first trophy at Englishtown, but even then I did not like the way the engine compartment looked.

What did you really think of it? How was the ride?

I used to do my own work on car engines up to the heads, the polltion crap and all the other government regs made it almost impossible to do anything on the Camaro, tight spaces was the word. The ride was rough. Looks sold me on the Camaro more than anything else, the women loved it.

I should have kept the Vette but marriage was approaching, i really like the new Camaro, Charger, and Challenger, but the price tags are well beyond my reach, when i bought the Jeep at City Auto Park in Burlington a salesman showed me the Charger with the Hemi engine, he said that to get to Wildwood and back that it would take two gas fill ups. The list price was $44,000., i almost had a second heart attack.

The Liberty Jeep that i bought as you stated in an earlier thread would get me to places that i have never been to before and keep me mostly out of trouble, i would not trade that in for todays gas guzzling over government regulated so called muscle cars, either though they bring back very old memories. Bring back the Chrome.

The Liberty was my second choice that day, i was more interested in a Wrangler Sport or a Wrangler Rubicon, Ben's Rubicon impressed the hell out of me, the Liberty did not come in yellow, and that is my favorite color for a vehicle, they also did not have the Wrangler in yellow, so i went with the Liberty in silver, my second favorite color.

Well, to be fair, these were not Concours d'Elegance competitions, where everything had to be original and in mint or better condition. This was at a lower class, at the twice-yearly Englishtown raceway park auto show and flea market. Still, this draws hundreds of cars.

I got a few trophies with that car. I won best in class in, like, 1990 or so. The color of that car originally was "dark tan poly". I changed it too a color called "rose metallic" because I liked it. I spent weeks picking it out, using an outline of the car and as many different crayons and colored pencils as I could get my hands on until it was just what I wanted. When I showed it, it drew people like a magnet.

The next year, I was second to a yellow GTO Judge. The guy did a good job restoring that. Remember them? It looked like this one:

PS: this is not to say that I did not buy as many original parts as I could. I put $15K into that car back then.

Wanted to add to this old thread that our hard work paid off. We made it to our first finals of the year this past weekend down at Cecil County Dragway in Maryland. Even though we lost in the finals it was still a great day. It was an all South Jersey finals! The announcer said he did not appreciate us Jersey Boys coming down and whippin' up on them. All in good fun.

New engine combo is 612 cubic inches, dynoed at over 1040 HP and over 850 lbs ft torque. We are the only one in the class that runs all motor. We do not use nitrous, turbos or a supercharger. The amount of work, maintenance and stress that go into a motor like this is considerable. We also use a 3 speed Lenco transmission. We are the only ones in the class that do not run an automatic, we actually shift gears! So we are the odd ball but the combo works. Runs 8.50's 160 MPH all day and we have to weigh at least 3,000lbs. Which isn't real light for a race car.

Just pretty excited about our hard work paying off and felt inclined to share.

You've got one heck of a car there and, frankly, I can't believe you lost in the finals! Back in the 70s and 80s, my brother used to run a V-8 Vega panel truck with a 350 c.i. and a 4-speed manual, but he could never touch the times you're posting. After much tweaking, he did finally make it into the 10s.

BTW, www.njpinebarrens.com in white or green lettering would look really great on the front fenders!!
