I just found out about this yesterday, read this thread and am fired up. Other than signing petitions and contacting gov. reps. I would like to do more to help.
Hands on documenting of the roads that are being closed. I can cover alot of ground on the recently closed roads on my fat bike.
That brings up another thing. How does cutting trees across these roads make bike riding or hiking or horseback riding easier when you put obstacles in the way. Are these trails going to be maintained? Are they going to stop allowing trees being cleared from the waterways? Or would this negatively effect canoe outfits? Nudge

The only thing that could make that any better is if that was 1/4 mile.You mean 'vernal pool'
As much as I would have liked that he would have blamed illegal ORV use for rutting it out.The only thing that could make that any better is if he got stuck.
He rutted it out yahooing through it while having his hatch open. Bet he doesn't like being put in with everyone else.
No it's really the PPA method of determining a vernal pool. I wouldn't have realized it without 46er
In all fairness to Al Horner, he was just going through a puddle in the road. Haven't we all done this? I would not be happy if someone took a video of me and posted it. So lets not go too overboard on this one. This could be one of us.
Yes I agree. That could be any one of us. He went through no different then I would. But I m not preaching against it. That video is no different then some of the videos on his blog. It's the idea that he is doing nothing wrong but everyone else is, is exactly what is at issue here. Most of us are in the middle on this subject. Sweeping closures is wrong but so is the status quo. The PPA's hard line stance is what is causing this debate. Had this been brought to even the members of the PPA prior, I doubt it would have gone this far. At least on my end, anyway.
That is oh so true. But lets keep in mind he was doing nothing illegal at least at the time.
But he was a partly responsible in making it illegal on more roads than it should be. Perhaps that road is one of them. You cannot cut people with a mindset like him any slack.
The closures continue to spread and have worked into Camden County. This is out by Sandy Causeway.
I spotted about a dozen other signs, but the sheer enthusiam of this closure suggest it was an intensely emotional experience!! LOL
I had to take a picture of this whack-jobs handiwork: Two signs, 20-30 dead falls, and several fresh cut trees dropped... what's back there, hidden treasure?
Almost worth taking a drive back there to see what the big deal is...

Road repairs are continuing as well (Fleming Pike, Sandy Causeway, and Burnt House Rd. IIRC)... though they don't seem to be quite as drastic a change as over by Carranza.

You have a good soul, Guy. If I where in your shoes I'm not sure what I would do. I can tell you have personal ties on either side. Both sides have very good people that want the best for the pines. Most of us fall in the middle on this and aren't really that far apart. I agree closures are needed but not as many. A systematic attack seems much more sustainable to me. Just because I'm against the closures doesn't mean I am against the PPA or even Al, for that matter. But their unwillingness to listen forces my hand. A compromise here would benifit everyone.

Word to the wise, when you are chasing road repairs in the family car... there is no guarantee they got finished.
I was almost through and was regretting leaving my wifes Jeep Cherokee in the driveway (the trip originally started out as a drive to drop closure info to Indian Mills G.C.).
Luckily it is dry season and this isn't my first rodeo... I was able to pick my way through everything out to pavement. I'll kinda miss it when it's washboard!
