Yeah, that's the problem. You need to decide whether to stay or go very soon. As the storm develops, trees and power lines will fall across the roads, water will rise. You don't want to get caught in the middle of that in your car with no way out.

Right, except that it seems like the wind and rain isn't going to really hit us until tomorrow, from what I can tell.

Dogg ... I want to head to Webbs Mill, climb and attach myself to the biggest tree, and listen for the beavers calling out to you and Jessica to save them. Video at 11.

Christie is talking of enforcing a travel ban tomorrow

They just said on WOND 1400am - Atlantic City that a travel ban goes into effect at 12:00am tonight. Anyone caught on the road will be arrested. They also said we could get a 10' storm surge tomorrow. If that much water comes in with some force behind it, that could bring my house down. :(

Don't think I want to get too far from home tomorrow. Remember the mess last year when they made the highways one-way, etc? http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/threads/hurricane.7513/page-3#post-88326

Tropical force winds are already approaching NJ.

It is time for you to head to high ground!

Low tide is at 3:42pm tomorrow. My truck is parked three miles offshore. If that storm is still making a B-line for me and they're still predicting a storm surge of potentially 10 feet, travel ban or no travel ban I'm going for my truck and heading inland to relatives. Better to risk ending up in a jail cell for driving than risk having the house cave in on me.

Up here high tide is in about 49 minutes and it is already past the high marker. The chart may show a low tide, but with the wind I doubt it will actually be low. It will just continue to build thru the cycles until the storm passes.

Fortunately I can see the road going out of town from my house, so I'll know if it's passable on foot. I won't attempt to walk through water if it's flooded. We're at mid-tide right now and the water has dropped back below the top of the bulkhead. Monday morning's high tide will probably be rough, but the one that really concerns me is the high tide at 9:07pm Monday night. That's when the storm will be coming ashore, and we'll have a full moon.

Be very careful Old Crazy, are you really going to try to walk 3 miles through this storm?

The NWS is showing the storm track shifting to the South this morning with landfall somewhere around Middle Township. And they are no longer showing a hurricane warning, just a tropical storm. Wind estimates are much lower now for me too, with the highest gusts at 55 mph

Today
Tropical storm conditions possible. Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 61. North wind 34 to 44 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible.

Tonight
Tropical storm conditions possible. Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 51. North wind 33 to 38 mph becoming south. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Tuesday
Tropical storm conditions possible. Showers. High near 53. South wind 25 to 30 mph decreasing to 18 to 23 mph. Winds could gust as high as 41 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Moving further North, the estimates are a little higher through. This is what they are showing for Bayville for example. Is that due to the counter-clockwise rotation of the storm maybe?

Today
Tropical storm conditions possible. Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 64. North wind 34 to 39 mph increasing to 40 to 50 mph. Winds could gust as high as 70 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Tonight
Tropical storm conditions possible. Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 48. East wind 45 to 55 mph becoming south 33 to 38 mph. Winds could gust as high as 70 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Tuesday
Tropical storm conditions possible. Showers. High near 55. South wind 21 to 26 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Stay safe everybody. Let's hope that it isn't as bad as they originally forecast.
