I was at Webb's Mill today and it is all blocked up. Jessica would not let me disturb the beavers work so it is still backed up. It is way higher than last week so it needs to be worked on quick. I will be in the area again tomorrow and will try to get at it.

The water is flowing well again. It was all I could do to toss the branches on top of those piles. They are getting so high something will have to be done to remove them. There needs to be a team of individuals passing off to each other to do this most likely. I fell in at one point but was able to get out quickly.

Maybe the FS will do a controlled burn on the piles of branches, and if they are lucky, there will be a beaver BBQ afterwards.

Or the PPA could put a great team together to get that done ;)

The beavers have repaired their dam again. The boardwalk area was under atleast ten inches of water this morning. We went and pulled most of the branches out of the first small blockage. It was flowing well when we left but I don't think it will do much with the amount of rain the area is supposed to receive. I wanted to return wearing waders and armed with tools to pull the other side apart but my free time ran out. I walked up the road some and walked in through the briars to see if I could come around the other side to dismantle the other section. Instead of making my way to the farside, I found another older dam about fifteen feet long hiddened and unpassable. Ugh! Anyone have a stock pile of tannerite?

Hats off to beavers
Beavers are fighters
Beavers will conquer any foe
And we will
Go!...Go!...Go!
Lets ... Give ... A
Cheer for the Beavers
Watch them build
Knocking all the trees down
So come all you Beavers
Fight! Fight! Fight!
And we will build tonight!

Dogg, you're alright in my book.;) I would just like to see a few rare plants bloom again further upstream.

I found that older one last week too Gibby when Guy and I were there. The water was so low that it would not have made a difference if we did tear it down.

I saw yesterday that someone had removed the first dam. But the second one was higher than ever and after today's rain the boardwalk is in trouble. I was with Jessica and she does not like me doing anything there so I didn't. When I am alone I will.

Teegate, I tried getting to the second dam Saturday morning but couldn't. I only managed the remove the first dam. I plan on returning early this week, after work, to remove what is there. I'm bringing waders, a pick ax and loppers on the next visit.

Be careful. I fell in going to the second one. Bob did most of the work on that one and then left me :) He found the other dam that you found by doing so. I was alone wading in the water thinking about the trip through that pipe and the beavers waiting for me on the other side.

I heard from a little bird that there is a plan about to be hatched to resolve the problem., but I've heard those chirps several times before.

I just got in from removing the the first and last dam. I couldn't get to the middle section because the water was moving so fast I was concerned, like Teegate, about going for a ride through the pipe under the road. It would have been a short trip, but one that I preferred not to take. The amount of water released was higher than the top of the culvert and I thought that I might have unleashed a deluge that could wash over the road. Luckily, nothing of the sort happened. I also took out a three foot section of the hidden dam just to give the beaver something else to work on tonight. Hopefully, all of the sections will stay open long enough to do some good. (The sticks and packing come apart very easily with a pick ax.)

They will be back but with all this rain someone will have to be on that every day for everyone's efforts to work.

Glad to see you made it out of there.

I stopped by the Mills today and what a surprise! The first pile of brush was moved to the other side of the road! Somebody (somebodies?) was motivated and worked hard to move that mound of brush. Way to go!

Was at Webb's for a brief time today. Out back, the water is flowing nicely thru the 2 cuts in the dam and is down even with the downstream side of the dam. At the boardwalk, water levels are looking good even with the past days rains, but it appears some moron/s has been digging plants. There were 2 dug holes with 2 legged footprints around them and footprints thruout the bog. Sundew all over the place, and many young pitchers. It appears the older large pitchers have succumbed.

Damn! Did you get a photo? That should be reported to the DEP right away.
