I think that was often true. But in 1979, I was working in Atlantic City and the island got 42 inches. Snow was level with the trunk of our Chevy Impala and Atlantic City was shut down for almost 3 days. Philly and NJ suburbs got far less snow.
Yes, I remember that. Back to back storms in February that year. I was living as a winter resident in Seaside Park. We got 22" and then two weeks later 24". I remember going up on the boardwalk by the log flume at night with the blowing snow. It was surreal.

In 1979 we had just moved to a place in Central New York near Lake Ontario and I will never forget the first big storm, we got about 60 inches of snow. Looked out the window in the morning and only saw a bump in the snow where the car was parked! We had been hearing all kinds of wild stories about Lake Effect snow that I found hard to believe, but that sure turned me into a believer. No snowblower, I had to shovel out a 100 foot driveway.

But this was a different storm than you guys are talking about, it was towards the end of the year, November or December and the weather is very different up there due to the lake.

Yep. One of the exceptions, not the norm.

Looking out the window now, I'm thinking I have 4-6 out there right now. Port Republic being reported as the winner, so far, at 12.5 inches, but there's still a few more hours to go.

I see maybe 3 or 4. Hard to tell with the blowing snow.

Looks like maybe 8 inches here, they just reported 18" in Forked River on the news. Radar shows a heavy band hitting the shore.

...Blizzard conditions continue near the coast...

Although the band of heaviest snow has mostly pivoted off shore,
areas of moderate snow continue across the coastal plains. In
addition, strong winds continue resulting in blowing snow and near
white out conditions especially near the coast. Web cams near the
coast indicate whiteout conditions. The conditions are expected to
persist through at least late morning. Please stay off the roads
as travel is strongly discouraged! If you must travel, make sure
you have winter survival kit in your car. If you become stranded,
stay with your vehicle.

Just spent awhile digging out the car and driving up and down the driveway a bunch of times to "plow" it. Glad to have four wheel drive! Not gonna need the snowblower. With the drifts it's hard to say how much we got, seems to vary between about 10 to 14 inches... call it an average of 12? Hard to be certain, but it appears to be over here. Hasn't really snowed anymore since early morning and the wind has died down considerably. Radar shows most of it off-shore now, with one band apparently in northern Ocean County.

Looking forward to those 50-degree temperatures in a few days. :)

We got about 6 or 7. Just finished out there. Much nicer this year with a new driveway.

We got an honest 10". Took an hour or two to blow out some paths for Murph and clear the driveway and then the wife and went to my gun club to clear the walkways. Another member ran our backhoe for a few hours to make some roadways across our parking lots. Hoping for a good meltdown.

This is mainly for areas West of the pines, but we may get some snow later today. Right now there's heavy rain at my home.

Winter Storm Warnings/Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for portions eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, northern Delaware, and the Eastern Shore of MD. This includes some expansions of previous Warnings and Advisories. Snow covered roads and hazardous driving conditions are likely.

Near blizzard conditions are likely for a time late this morning and early this afternoon especially in the Winter Storm Warning area.

A flash freeze on wet untreated sidewalks and roadways may occur on this afternoon and evening as temperatures drop rapidly below freezing.

Windy conditions are expected this afternoon and tonight. Gusts of 40 to 50 mph are likely, potentially leading to scattered power outages. A Wind Advisory is in effect.

A Gale Warning is in effect for the coastal waters of New Jersey and Delaware, and for Delaware Bay from this morning into Sunday morning.

Raining hard here as well. Looks like around 10:00 it will slow and change to snow or at least lighter rain. It is still 47 here.
