When I was a young man, a feisty woman described snowstorms to me with a wink and a smile as "you never know how long it's gonna last or how many inches you're gonna get".

And that's all I've got to say about that...

Are you sure Forest Gump didn't say that? :D

Cleared off the car, was surprised to find about 8" of very heavy snow but pretty easy to brush off since the bottom layer was wet. Drove down to the end of my little road just for fun, hadn't been cleared (no surprise with maybe 12 homes on a 4 mile road). Pretty slippery but no problem going slow. This could be a real mess tomorrow morning after a 12 degree night. 47 degrees on Wednesday ought get rid of most of it, but there could be another one coming on Friday.

We really haven't seen any "heavy" snow here today, just slow and steady. No wind at all right now.

It's funny going back and looking at all the different total's that were forecast. Covered about every possibility.

Updated forecast is pretty similar, and the labels are still confusing, you have to look at the color scale to understand what the map means. 3-4 inches for most of the Pines, those 2-3" numbers are just for the coast. Roads are pretty good around here today but my unpaved driveway is a disaster with huge mud puddles. Cold nights return tomorrow, so I guess it will all freeze over.

I always check out the Forecast Discussion from the National Weather Service. It’s very technical but they present the data without hyping it up like the news stations do.
I have converted a few people to NOAA users over the years but very few. It seems that most people actually like McWeather, as I call anything other than NOAA, with the bells, whistles, pop-up ads, sensationalized forecasts and irritating alerts every time a cloud glides by.

I use NOAA daily for planning fieldwork and I use it for marine forecasts and real-time sea condition data for fishing. It's also a great resource for gathering climatic data for work purposes.
