    Couple of Batona Trail Questions

It would take some doing to get truly "lost" on this trail. A few lost minutes on a road or fire plowline followed by some backtracking, that's about it. Don't misunderstand...I really like the trail, just not so much the heavy hand of man.

    North Jersey Ghost Towns

Those are based on the more extensive, wonderful New York-New Jersey Trail Conference maps that are printed on Tyvek, regularly updated, and available for purchase (reasonable prices). Really nice maps. I don't believe the state is involved in creating them in any way although I could be wrong.

    Couple of Batona Trail Questions

At the risk of sounding like a total ingrate, which I don't want to be but uncomfortably recognize that I might be (since I am a user but not a maintainer of the Batona Trail), does anyone share my dismay at the over-blazing of this trail? I have stood in certain places along the trail and been...

    Motorized Access

That seems to be exactly it. Most of us are reasonable and essentially agree. There really shouldn't be rancor here. I mean...I am a new member/poster here so shouldn't presume to speak for the members at large, but have read enough to believe that this is a mainly level-headed group of...

    Buck Moths

Ah, I see. Thanks! So does the adult assume a posture that might cause a predator to think that it too has the ability to inflict pain? Nice trick!

What was he warning you about, and what might the outcome have been?

    Early This Morning Exploring

I know. Just being a little sensitive. As a woman, it bugs me how exposed I am when nature calls. The thought of cameras is kind of disturbing.

Also, I guess the notion of "privacy" on public land is sort of an oxymoron. I realized this after I wrote it. Although I do not like the concept of being "watched" and recorded, by people.

Just curious: this was public land? Is it legal to set up cameras and then leave them on public land? I came across one of these several years ago in a fairly remote public place near where I live and it felt like an invasion of privacy.

    Can't disagree with that.

So it is probably a good thing for these snakes to prevent other roads from becoming as heavily used as Carranza Road.

ORV Management In Sensitive Areas Of Wharton

The perfect outcome of this whole thing would be what? All the roads that currently exist remain open to law-abiding citizens who treat the land, plants, their fellow humans and non-human inhabitants with respect. Using any vehicle off these many, many miles of established roads has to be...

    Couple of Batona Trail Questions

Kayak Karl, I just recently discovered the Sawyer mini and I love it! It's awesome for short trips and/or solo use. For longer trips or places where you might need to treat and carry a lot of water over longer distances (not the Pine Barrens) or for more than one person it might not be the...
