Great job Guy! Looking a gift horse in the mouth and somewhat off topic, Haines owns Sim Place as we all know, that came with a lot of property that he also had surveyed. Unfortunately the state maps of that area show owner unknown or null. All I can say somebody in the township clerks office...

This pit is Haines and yes there are bonfires there also. While we're seeing how inaccurate the state maps are I doubt the FFS would be that wrong. It's not a secret, maybe someone knows a FFS person that could pinpoint the exact location of the bonfire? I'm far from a forest fire expert but if...

Bob, that outline of Penn State is grossly wrong. Not only is that the "old" depiction but it never extended that far north. Originally the north boundary was the straight white line at the top of the pit. With the Haines survey it now has moved north to the faint white straight line just a...

I agree. I know the area and there is no logical place for a bonfire other than the pit itself, the overlook or another small clearing north and slightly west of the pit, As ij762 stated, there are disputes on who owns what and is exactly the reason Haines had his land surveyed. Unless the FFS...

What do you mean had, don't they still have? UH, wait a second. Did they donate their land to Ocean county? I'm aware of what they own there from seeing the posted signs. I never saw the survey clearings either. Do surveyors still use transits or laser versions? I'm aware gps is used now but for...

No, he owns all around it. The rectangle is part of Penn State. So, the bonfire was on state property and spread to private property, vise versa of what was reported.

Does the NC actually do a physical survey? I know they should, but do they actually do it? I imagine they would place corner monuments but not clear the actual lines like Haines?

I would be interested in seeing the master map when completed if possible.

Yes, I see the pit now that you pointed it out. It really is obscured.

It's been a while since I've explored the property lines, actually shortly after they were cut. I seem to remember seeing new corner monuments, which would make perfect sense so they shouldn't be hard to locate.

Bob, have you ever been here? https://maps.njpinebarrens.com/#lat=39.77107783650873&lng=-74.44335472313464&z=19&type=nj2015&gpx= There's an old enduro trail going over the top. Unfortunately, the trees are large and there is nothing to see. Maybe now you can see a little because of the fire, but...

FYI, this is the old boundary lines for Penn State https://maps.njpinebarrens.com/#lat=39.761622342067&lng=-74.45088464420317&z=18&type=hybrid&gpx= and this is the "new" and current property line for Penn State thanks to Haines...

Yes, it is, if you've not been there it's worth the trip on a clear day. Haines Sr used to sit in his truck for hours just looking over the forest, so I'm told.

Guy, I think we talked about this, "unknown or null" The state maps which are dependent on the township records are grossly not updated. For example, a lot of land that was previously Sim Place, which is now Haines shows null or unknown.I'm sure Haines gave the townships copies of his land...

It said "escaped private land" Well, that gravel pit, the one I think it is, was thought to be Haines until he had his land resurveyed. https://maps.njpinebarrens.com/#lat=39.76649225139076&lng=-74.4489266316223&z=16&type=hybrid&gpx= The property lines were relocated approx. 300' North and about...

    Bass River Fire Tower proposal

I haven't been there, are the trees stilled piled up and rotting? Perhaps the trees are too small for any commercial value. You'd at least think a requirement would have been to chip the residue. Did anyone take notice this was the same company that did the fire tower clearing?

Understood. I was finished complaining. It's a done deal and no use crying over spilled milk as the saying goes. I'd like to hear more about C1nj's dirtbike adventures but in another thread.

    Bass River Fire Tower proposal

With the exception of cedar, trees in and around the "barrens" are worthless, there is no market. If there happen to be useful trees on a building lot there is not enough quantity to make logging profitable. The keyword here is logging which was done, not bulldozing just to clear the land. I...
