    Very handsome!

    A couple of macros

Those eggs are cool! They look lepidopteran to me. Some kind of caterpillar. Not sure which though.

    Bridge Destroyed in Minutes

That gave me bad flashbacks. I love the way the culvert bobs to the surface like a monster. Boo!

unfortunate photos of apple pie hill

I have never been up there when there hasn't been smashed tv's and computers all over the ground under the tower.

    Something caught on camera?

Bug or reflection. There is no way that is a crop duster. Crop dusters fly about 80 mph, slower when they are actually dusting. Basically, the same speed as a car. They also look like this, not exactly what we are seeing on the video:

    Cedar Waxwing

Beautiful! What great eyeliner they have. I kind of like the blurry effect. It features them.

    Paper water bottle

That is fantastic. I hope they can contain pressurized beverages like soda, that would be really good. Remember paper gallon milk cartons? I wish they would come back too. What the kid says about plastic outweighing plankton in the ocean is true and frightening. That is what is so bad about...

What are those cup-like things in the bottom right of the third photo?

    Have I missed something?

Seriously, what is the fun in that?

    Flying Squirrel

If you find a remote cedar swamp and go there at dusk, you have a good chance of seeing them. Look waaayyyy up in the tree canopy.

I don't see why not, but you'd need a LOT of lift. Like a weather balloon. The rig weighs a few pounds, and if there's not enough lift under the kite wing, it won't get it very far off the ground. By the way, I misspoke. Our best kite has a 10' wingspan and is delta-shaped.

Joe found a website where someone describes it, I think. Lots of people apparently do it. We had to experiment with kites, and the best one we have (the one I had to rescue from the ocean yesterday) has about a 5 foot wingspan. It's great for low or moderate wind. The windspeed matters a lot...

And I am not sure what you mean by the photos not matching what shows up. DO you mean the thumbnails at the bottom? They match for me. Strange. And I was thinking Friendship would be a great place to take the kite cam. The ruins and the bogs behind them would make for some interesting shots.

Isn't it though? He made this rig and attached a bunch of servos to it so we can operate it remotely. (this is not the camera we used today). One servo swings it around, one up and down, and one operates the shutter. There is a photo in that album that shows Joe right beneath the camera holding...

    Flying Squirrel

What a cutiepie! How cordial of him to pose for you like that. They are apparently quite common in NJ, almost as much so as the gray squirrel, but their arboreal nature makes them very hard to spot. I have seen them in the pines, deep in a cedar swamp, flying between canopies. My cat brought...

Excellent! I am in awe of your ability with that camera. We used our camera (that is a lot like yours, a Canon somethingorother) for the very opposite application today, my husband made a kite rig for it. It's not piney related so I'll just post the link if you are interested. This was at...

    This country is doomed!

Oh for heaven's sake. Seriously? What sane person would arrest that guy?

    Aphids ?

Oops, I stand corrected. The entomologist I spoke to says he is not an aphid expert. My mistake. He's more into ants. Entomologists are weird. Anyway, I'll see if we can ID that one.

    Aphids ?

I'll see what I can do, Guy. It would have to follow the Linnaean taxonomic name format, so it would have to be Myzus persicae (subspecies) May I suggest perhaps Myzus persicae (swizzlestickeii) ? :)
