    Enemy of turtles

Nice shots Bob. I don't know if you were at Island beach or not. I noticed the foxes there have little trepedation about going about there business in close proximity to people. Even, sadly, approaching cars from time to time. Jeff

    Sweetwater Casino on Fire!

Just caught all of this on the 10'0clock news (I get home late). Such a shame.

    So long Hampton Furnace Building

Do you have any idea how much they made off with? (how long were they loading up?) People are unbelievable. Jeff

    Bourbon

I grew up a few miles from the Lairds Applejack distillery. Didn't get it any cheaper though. I lost alot of teenage brain cells on that stuff. That and Mohawk blackberry brandy. Jeff

    Where was Davis Grove?

Interestingly, this area is very very close to my original guess (which was entirely a guess). If not for the designation of "North side of route40/70" I would have thought that was it. There are quite a few clearings of sorts around this area of the highway. Great work Jerseyman!! Jeff

    The Upper Batsto

That was a great trip report, and very nicely written. Something I would expect to read in a great explorer's journal. That must have been before I was in PBX, sorry I missed that one. You guys went pretty far in some rough country there. Jeff

    Bub's big fishing expo

Nice pickerel! Tom, looks like they are using minnows. You'll have to get the kids to refer to the pickerel as either "chain sides" or "pike" if you want to make real pineys out of em:) Jeff

    The Upper Batsto

Too muddy for waders would be mud deeper than my hip waders. Chest waders would be an option but they are cumbersome and besides, once you are up to your hips in mud you're not anywhere fast anyway. I suspect in many spots, there is probably at least a foot or more of mud depth below the...

You know, considering he was chasing them away from their kill, I am surprised they were not aggressive toward him. Jeff

    Pestletown 'Yotes

While there might be some concern with livestock, I think a coyote would have to be starving to go after a human child (as was probably the case in middletown). They might be oportunistic, but humans are not a food source they are familar with, and I think with the deer populations being the...

    more herps from the pines:

Guy, the name of that snake is a rough green snake. I believe there is a smooth green snake as well, but I don't think that variety is native. Jeff

    more herps from the pines:

Really great photos Bob! I mean, really really nice. Such detail, and your perspective is very captivating. I've never seen a hognosed snake in the pines. Someday. Jeff

    The Upper Batsto

Yes, I studied the tax maps near my house. That land is no longer for sale. Other than Rosedale and PHS, alot of that land in there is owned by Quail Inc, which I believe is the incorporated name for the goose pond gun club. Of course the state owns alot as well. the bog system in there is...

    Jersey Devil: Not Just Folklore?

I would be very surprised if there was a bear in Mount Laurel. What exactly does a "kangarooish behind" look like? What color? How big? If you can answer these questions it might make it easier it identify.

Alright, it is not a link but a photo. The area in question is right beneath the "burlington" water mark on the south side of 70. Jeff

    Where was Davis Grove?

LMC, are you certain now that it was between the red lion and Medford? There is an area that has always been curious to me along route 70 between the four mile circle and the red lion. It is on the south side between burrs mill road and sooy place road. I always thought it might have been a...

    The Upper Batsto

I live near the upper reaches of the Batsto river (north of Carranza). A couple weeks back I had a chance to get back in there. Access to the river in this area is very difficult. No roads or trails exist anymore that meet, or boarder it's banks. A stark contrast to the many access points...
