    Bodine's Tavern

I'll put it here as it has to do with Bodines. I'm reading through the Martha Furnace Diary - in an entry dated 4 August 1808, it states: "This Day the 2d Company Court of Appeals was held at Bodines. David Vann Attended & returned regular in the Evening. He got Israel Mick to drive for...

    Deep Hollow Campground

Great pics! Shame people see an abandoned area as a convienient place to disposed of unwanted items :( good find on the brochure! and the brochure kinda answers a question from the thread I started - it looks like Norlemon was a town in 1961 - maybe.... a cleanup sounds like a...

    Mount Korbar?

Mt Korbar - explained?? I haven't been there in a while and hope to rewalk that section of the trail soon, but as the sign is on a tree...um, this may explain where the name came from. I knew the hill as Tea Time - it could be the current sign is an ad for a band - KoRbaR. They play in Forked...

    Ruins found near Bodine Field....

Martha Furnace Diary I notice this thread is kinda old and well, I'm new round these parts so not sure if the interest is still out there but I found the Martha Furnace Diary online - goes from 1808-1815. Just did a quick scan of a few pages and it's rather interesting, if you're into that sort...

Things that shouldn't be done in the Pines.

Amazes me the bottles, and I'm talking plastic, you find along the Batona Trail - found one the other day that was half full. OK, so that could have been dropped accidentally. But from skimming this - I'm with y'all - if you can carry it into the Pines, you sure as heck can carry it out. There...

Saw this pic on the internet.

Cool pic. One thing I always thought was neat was seeing the A-10 Warthogs go buzzing over the Pines. Everytime I went out there I'd see one or two...of course this was a number of years ago....

Weird electronic mishaps in the pines

Regarding electronic mishaps, this past weekend I was hiking the Batona Trail with my GPS and usually the track was dead on where I was. Crossing 563 to White Horse Road, it all of a sudden when squirrely on me. The track ended up far to the right of White Horse Rd on the map. It was fine up...

Strange place on Sooy Place Rd

I was through this area today on the Batona Trail - wondered about it myself. Only three "streets" were visible of those on the grid. Was hard to tell where the others ran and most likely have overgrown through the years. I agree the grid system does appear development like......

    A few questions

Thanks bobpbx :) I had read somewhere it may have been campground. Shame it isn't there anymore, but the proximity to Presidential Lakes may have made it necessary to abandon it, I guess. Wonder if there are any pics of the old campground. Something for me to look into

    A few questions

oops actually I think I confused matters - Norlemon Road isn't near Deep Hollow Pond. Here is where it's located - It joins Route 72 and Shinns Road:http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=39.88748&lon=-74.56766&size=m&u=4&datum=nad27&layer=DRG

    A few questions

Hey all. I was out on the Batona Trail today with my GPS and noticed the trail crosses a dirt road with the name of Norlemon. Would anyone know the origin of this name? Also, near Deep Hollow Pond, there is an old paved road which I understand to be part of an old campground or campsite -...
