How one man's work defines him.

If anybody wants to build a boat on a time budget and a money budget, you can build a Cajun Pirogue in 12 hours for around $200. http://www.unclejohns.com/boat/...

How one man's work defines him.

The outer hull is covered in fiberglass cloth and epoxy, so they should be very durable. My mahogany sea kayak has been going strong for 16 years now, but they do require some periodic maintenance if you want to keep them looking good. Every 3-4 years I sand the bottom and skim it with wood...

How one man's work defines him.

Nice canoes. I have built two sea kayaks out of Okoume mahogany using the stich & glue method of construction. That guy is using the plank strip method to build his canoes, which is WAY harder.

Menantico Ponds Walk -Saturday, August 27, 2011

If you take Rt 55 south to the end it funnels into Rt.47. About two miles down the road is the Super WaWa. Make a right at the Super WaWa and drive west one mile to a bridge that crosses over the Maurice River. After you cross the bridge you'll see a yellow blinking light. If you were to turn...

Menantico Ponds Walk -Saturday, August 27, 2011

I'm going to fish Lake Audrey in Mauruicetown tomorrow morning, which is a clear spring fed lake. But where I fished in Menantico Ponds was your typical South Jersey stained water. I got back there following a paved road off Rt. 49 on the outskirts of Millville, which leads to a boat ramp. I'm...

Menantico Ponds Walk -Saturday, August 27, 2011

The waters where I was fishing are tidal. The stripped bass I caught looked exactly like the stripped bass I catch offshore or in the back bays. When I pulled my first one in the boat and held it in front of me I thought, "What the hell is a stripped bass doing in a pond in Millville?" lol...

Menantico Ponds Walk -Saturday, August 27, 2011

It says in that article that prior to catching that state record largemouth bass, he lost a big fish in Menantico that snapped his line when it dove. I had the same thing happen to me out there, but it was a monster pickerel, not a bass. Got it right up to the boat and thought, "Holy cow! Look...

Menantico Ponds Walk -Saturday, August 27, 2011

Took my little Bass boat to Menantico Ponds and fished there for the first time ever on Saturday. I caught largemouth bass, stripped bass, pickerel, yellow perch, white perch, and bluegill. That's the biggest variety of fish I have ever caught in a single spot in one trip. SWEET!

NJ has one of the lowest obesity rates

I don't think it's a coincidence that the states with the highest levels of obesity have the best ribs, pork sandwiches and brisket. :) Seriously though, if you eat the standard American diet, unless you are genetically blessed, you are going to get fat.

    Anyone here grow their own?

If anybody is looking for exotic peppers to grow, including the Bhut Jolokia, there is a nursery right here in NJ that sells 500 varieties of pepper seedlings in the spring & early summer (they're now closed until spring '13) They also sell 180 varieties of tomatoes. I have been buying peppers...

A word of warning! Don't click any links on these spam posts. I saw the threads in the Russian language yesterday and foolishly clicked the attached link thinking it might have something to do with the pine barrens. My security software immediately identified it as a virus, which I was...

    It must be 'Shark Week'

That's a neat thing to watch...from the shoreline! If I'm out there crusing around in my kayak and snapper blues start jumping over my deck to avoid a shark torpedo...well...lets just say there goes a perfectly good pair of shorts!

Changes IN NJ State Park Regs

I used to shoot those Estes rockets off when I was a kid and managed to start a few small fires with them. They are definitely a fire hazard around dry pine needles.
