I have been there. I think the island is a great exploration. As I recall, it was about a mile paddle. There was a stiff wind the day I went there, which made paddling more difficult. Lots of poison ivy, as I recall. The catwalks looked tempting, but that would surely present problems.

I time my explorations for low tide. I have never had a problem. Of course, the beach is available by kayak too. I highly recommend timing high tide properly based on the length of time you'll be there in going by water. Low tide means there is not enough water to get back. I know this...
