    The Cafe at Buzby's

Stopped in with a couple of friends today to see Marilyn and check out the rearranged space in the store. We met two very nice ladies who, unfortunately, were just in the process of closing up at 2:00 PM, so we didn't get anything to eat. They've made good use of the space, and we'll definitely...

    Meandering Through the Mordecai

Great report, Ben. I'm constantly stumbling across these old tracks out there, especially in the area between Batsto and south of Washington Field, and I love reading about what they might have been. I don't know if we have seen that one, I suspect not, since it's a bit south of where we have...

    Alquatka Branch, a PBX Hike

Wow, that savannah is amazing, and the charcoal ring intriguing. Great report, guys.

Give me a list of "Must See's"

Well now I know :). If it's a sought-after niche volume then it's not surprising that it draws a good buck.

    Fire Breaks

I think the trenching is for the purpose you describe: breaking up the humus of the forest floor, which often acts to conduct fires below ground level from one spot to another. I don't think any feature narrower than a feedstrip would keep fire from jumping across in a stiff breeze.

    Burlington County Insane Asylum?

Jerseyman, my hat is off to you again. Great background, and how wonderful that you have a book inscribed by Shane's grandfather.

Give me a list of "Must See's"

Guy, that already seems like a high bid for a volume published less than twenty years ago. Is it so rare?

    I saw something strange tonight

Speaking as someone who has dug clams in the mud of New England beaches, for spending cash, and dredged oysters with the Cheasapeake fleet back when we opened up a bucketfull for lunch at noon, I have to say that the appeal of Clamato has always eluded me. Clamato mixed with beer? The thought...

    Whippoorbill's gift to us

I've had that same experience with my kids. In fact I have taken some small amount of pleasure in pointing out to them the subtle queues that tell you someone's voice has been heavily post-processed. You hear it a lot on R&B tracks these days. Few of the younger stars can really cut it in a live...

    Whippoorbill's gift to us

Speaking of audio recording... check out what these guys are doing. Link is to a page w/professional promo video. It's a little long, but if you're interested in digital audio it will be worth it. I'll never trust my ears again :). http://www.celemony.com/cms/index.php?id=dna&L=0

    Whippoorbill's gift to us

I'll get together for a jam with you guys anytime, if I can make it down. Sundays aren't going to be so hot for the next couple of months due to soccer, but Friday nights are pretty good, and Saturdays not too bad.

    Whippoorbill's gift to us

I agree 100%! I think this would be a sure bet for acceptance.

Give me a list of "Must See's"

If you mean a set of what look like rails running inside the actual rails, then I think this are anti-derailing devices. Ones that have a frog at the ends are actually re-railers.

    First post

Very cool. I would never have thought a snake had made that hole without reading that background information. The fox seemed much more plausible. Welcome aboard, Nowa!

    Busby's Cafe

If it's for sale I would like to know the name of the realtor handling it. I hope Marilyn isn't selling out, but I know she will have to someday. I looked on MLS and didn't see anything.

    Cranberry Hall

Great stuff, Jerseyman. I was inspired to open up Google Earth and try to fit the historic map of Pointville into some geographical context. Here is a shot of Pointville today, such as it is: And here is the same image with the historic map overlayed at 60% opacity: If you look...

    Hiking the Great Swamp Again

Excellent work and pics, Guy. I'm curious about the inscription regarding the LH stone on the older map. What's that about a "cripple" right below it? Is that a slur, or some surveyor-speak? :)
