PSE&G Proposes Wind Farm Off New Jersey Coast

As a civilization, for us to spend energy and resources investigating any new source of energy that doesn't provide somewhere near the same number of easily transportable calories as oil is just rearranging the old deck chairs. Wind farms are neat (anyone ever see the Altamont Pass farm west of...

Very cool, Ben! Thanks for all that work. I'm looking forward to using up some more of your bandwidth tonight.

I made the front page? And all this time my family thought I'd never amount to anything. By the way, I'm sure that was a frosty root beer I was holding.

George Cook Atlas - Sheet 3

Thanks, Ben. I grabbed those maps off the Rumsey site a few weeks ago, and noticed the higher resolution. I'm sure that having them available here would be useful for people in the future. They're really amazing resources.

It's kind of funny to think of them trying to build up enough drama in the barrens. "Les is almost five _miles_ from the nearest paved road, the ground is wet and mossy, and there may be snakes. But the number one danger he faces right now is ticks and chiggers, and the occasional ATV rider."

    Beer (again)

It'll take a large number of brightly-labelled microbrews to outweigh all that Keystone and Ten Fiddy :).

    Beer (again)

What was that really dirt cheap Philly beer... was it Ortlieb's? I remember it was like $1.80 a sixpack. I say we talk about the worst beers.

    Deadly Traps in Wharton SF

I thoroughly disagree :). Terrorism is simply the desire to achieve political reform by creating terror. It fits the burning of houses by the ELF to a 'T'.

Thanks for the tip :). I always wondered how you did that.

    Greetings! New to area

Didn't we have someone else posting from that part of the country recently, yanking LIP's chain? Now this guy posts wanting to know where undocumented immigrants can get work in New Jersey? Like they need to post on a Pine Barrens forum to find that out. LIP, I think you mentioned this forum...

This may have something to do with all the tropical rains

The Gulf Stream is not much more than 200 miles off Cape May this winter, and spawning inshore eddies of warm water, as it always does. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Gulf_Stream_water_temperature.jpg The blue-green waters just east of the Jersey Coast are in the 60-70 degree band.

    Beer (again)

My writing falls into two broad categories. The first is technical/engineering articles on software, of which I have published 25 or so over the last two decades, mostly in journals that are now long-gone, or almost gone, like Dr. Dobb's Journal, Software Development, PC Techniques, etc. The...

    Deadly Traps in Wharton SF

Well I was talking about the ELF house burners, but you can apply the comment to any asshat that would string a line across a trail, too.

    Beer (again)

I usually wait at least a week before rereading it. Ok, that's a lie. I re-read more than I write.

    Beer (again)

According to Christopher Hitchens the attachment of the word "spirit" to alchoholic beverages is not an accident. http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-tartakovsky27feb27,0,6447088.story I had to do some writing last night, so I got out a bottle of single malt, and I have...

    Deadly Traps in Wharton SF

These guys are going to get treated just like terrorists, which is what they are. I give the FBI a 90+% chance of catching at least some of the actors within a year, just based on the level of intelligence indicated by that sign they left.

Anyone else get much sleep last night?

There's never a wind that blew that I could not sleep through.

    Beer (again)

I disagree. After six or seven of them I find myself concentrating intently on the liquid in the glass. So it must be pretty fascinating.

    Candles already!?

I guess we're having a language issue. Ticks and chiggers are a pain in the ass, but they aren't disturbing. Gypsy moths also aren't disturbing. When one of my kids created a MySpace profile labelling herself a 24 year-old model from Miami... that was disturbing.

    Primitive Tools Area

Hmm, sounds interesting. I go by that area every few weeks, so I'll have to check it out next time. Almost sounds like an activity station for campers, or something like that. On the arrows, remember that they don't fly straight. If you shoot at an upward angle from some distance away the...
