    Atsion Mansion Restoration

Yeah, didn't want to say anything, but I'm not buying it either, and haven't right along. But as Jerseyman says: it's a hoot anyway. I think the poster is "jumping the shark" with phrases like "fancy 'lectric," where he shows that he knows more about the uses of an apostrophe than the average...

    Relic Hunter

Welcome RelicHunter. Don't mind us, we're just a little sensitive on the point, and in fact there was a very recent discussion on people encountered using metal detectors around the ghost towns on state land. Glad you aren't one of them! :)

Give me a list of "Must See's"

It's quite easy to get up to, actually. Here's a Google Maps view of the top of the hill. http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=39.848744,-74.287019&spn=0.011202,0.021672&t=h&z=16 I usually come in off of 539 on Bryant Rd., and take that until it turns to the right and heads SE. Stay with it...

Give me a list of "Must See's"

I'm not surprised. You basically traverse a major corridor of civilization in the pines. There ought to be some interesting structural remains and other stuff along it.

Give me a list of "Must See's"

Be interesting to do a hike straight up the right of way from Atsion, perhaps not as far as Chatsworth (12 mi. I think), but a good part of the way.

Congrats, Guy. I'm glad the outcome was positive.

    Google Maps

Guy, I accidentally altered my post back. I am sorry ;). Mark Original said something about seeing a change in the imagery up here in North Jersey recently. New imagery is more recent, but lower in detail.

Give me a list of "Must See's"

Right here: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=39.755059,-74.679286&spn=0.011168,0.021522&t=h&z=16 If you scroll out a bit you'll see that its an easy drive down from the Hampton Village clearing, and then a short walk over to the trestle. The center of the trestle has been planked to make it...

    Corduroy road found, maybe.

Yeah, basically to shore up soft ground so you could move heavy wagonloads across it.

    I want a gun...

A centerfire round has the primer located in the center of the shell, and the firing pin strikes it in the center. A rimfire round has primer material formed into the rim of the base, and the firing pin strikes the rim. I don't know the advantages and disadvantages of each, but I think rimfire...

Give me a list of "Must See's"

The view from Forked River Mountains. The ruins at Friendship, and Washington. The Brooksbrae ruins west of Woodmansie Rd. The ruins of Amatol. The old pumping station on the river north of Martha. The ruins of Ogden Nash's cabin. The pit at Old Halfway. The abandoned railroad trestle off...

    Mount Misery Bogs

Great pics whitingrider. That stretch of right-of-way reminds me of a similar bit just east of Forked River Mts.

And if I recall, it's really green. Or really blue. Really something.

    Southeast of Hampton Forge

Did you guys hear the reports predicting $4 gas by spring? Some nasty factors all coming together. Good thing I don't burn much just tooling around in the woods, but the drive down from Long Valley, which already costs close to $20 each way, will probably get worse.

    Atsion Mansion Restoration

I'm surprised to hear that, and saddened. It's definitely against the regulations, and with a pretty steep fine to boot. I hate to think private individuals are going in there and carrying stuff off. Speaking of the Atsion Mansion, I was by there Sunday and it looked like there had been some...

    Atsion schoolhouse and some cats!

I'm glad you said it, because I was thinking the same thing. It ain't 1930, youngster, and I doubt your uncle is going to shoot anybody.

    I want a gun...

.22 I would imagine, for Boy Scouts and target practice. Are there any special requirements for rifle ownership in NJ? Nm, here's the answer... http://www.njsp.org/faq.html
