    New Map

Jerseyman, The map has seen alot of use. When my ggreat grandfather got it he and Windfield Eldridge were using it to locate pieces of the the Hanover Tract to sell. Then it spent about 40 years folded up in a suitcase. Then, Elizabeth Morgan got in touch with my grandmother about the...

    New Map

It's a shame the quality is so bad... Anyway, on a different subject, I recently came across a letter on ebay from Benjamin Jones to Isaac Townsend dated May of 1831. Needless to say, I bought it. I expect it to show up in the mail tomorrow or Friday. If anyone is interested I will post it.

    New Map

Jerseyman, I don't have any information regarding the Delaware & Atlantic Railroad. I would be interested in what you might have, though.

    New Map

Jerseyman, Thanks for the information. You have done quite a bit of research. Your point about Richard not having any relation to the founders of the Florence City Corp makes alot of sense. While Boyer's book claims that Richard organized the New Jersey Exploration and Mining Company...

    New Map

I did. A copy of the same map was published in the Burlington County Herald in 1859(+/-) and I have wondered where it came from. Your copy is much nicer, though. The edges of town are cut off on the copy I have. I have often wondered if Richard wasn't behind the formation of the Florence...

    Jobs Old Swamp

It appears you guys are getting pretty close to it. I don't have any other information to add. There was a letter that I had sent to Ben from Charles Corey regarding Jobs Old Swamp. But it didn't give any detail as to the location. ...and, Bob, I must concur with Guy.

    Jobs Old Swamp

Guy, This may help. If you know where Troy Island is, you're there. R. and S. H. Jones, Tanton Earl, Richard W. Earl, and Franklin W. Earl wishing to dispose of all their cedar timber in "Job's Old Swamp," will again offer for sale on Monday March 19, 1855, 15 or 20 acres of cedar timber...

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. We will be going to Langhorne for dinner and then back to Florence for desert. Running around is the best part of the holidays.

    Two More Hanover Stones Found

That is a great find Guy. It will be a real shame if they end up being destroyed/removed. No need for an apology, your health is more important.

Pasadena and Greenwood Forest Historical Info

I have been trying to locate a place that can digitally scan large documents (3'X4'), but have had no luck. If ever I do manage to find someone that can scan it, I will send you a copy.

Pasadena and Greenwood Forest Historical Info

I just read this thread for the first time tonight...nice find Guy. The Jones Tract map (surveyed by Jos. Cox) also shows Old Half Way on the Ocean County side. I believe you may have a copy of this map, albeit, not a very good one. I tried to take a clear photo of it tonight, but my camera...

    Richard Jones of Hanover Furnace

He had much of the same information that I have collected. He didn't know anything about the Florence Iron Works, though. And, he told me that Richard also had a coal trading business in Philadelphia and New York. He is going to try and get a better photo of Richards picture for me.

    Richard Jones of Hanover Furnace

It took me three years of searching to locate this. I would imagine that there is more stuff out there, as this is only one descendant. Apparently there was a painting of Benjamin Jones that went to Vetnor, Isle of Wight with his grand-daughter Alice (Jones) Williams, but it got destroyed in a...

    Richard Jones of Hanover Furnace

I tracked down a cousin of mine that lives in Ithica, NY and he happened to have a tin-type of Richard Jones and a water color of the manor house on the lake at Hanover Furnace. I have posted copies of them in my album (grandchildren of Richard Jones) for anyone who may be interested. They are...

Towers of Fire: Iron Production in the Pine Barrens

There is a shattered cannon with a ball that was pulled out of the North Branch of the Rancocas creek at the Pemberton Historical Society (the train station) that is believed to have come from Hanover.
