From the Chamberlain to Long Causeway

Bill, I'll do my best to explain what I know of the process. The goal is to restore natural water flow between the bogs. Therefore the dikes are opened up, then the centers are dug out. The way the are now you have those trenches on the perimeter and the elevated center portion. The center...

From the Chamberlain to Long Causeway

I guess I spent to much time out there(nevermind you can never spend enough time out in the pines). I use to(and still do) marvel at how some of the guys on here can see a picture and know exactly where it was. Its funny how I'm now able to recognize places in the pines. You would think in...

From the Chamberlain to Long Causeway

Bob, I guess we have different views of aesthetic beauty:) Those bogs though in that state provided little habitat to the critters of the barrens. Now that they are opened up they provide great carpenter frog, fowler toad, pbtf, leopard frog painted, spotted, snapping turtle, and water fowl...

From the Chamberlain to Long Causeway

Guy, never knew that was called long causeway. Glad they dug up those bogs there, they literally had nothing in them, no water turtles, nothing. The centers were like concrete.

State set to begin repairs to pothole-ridden Stage Road

Does anyone know if they are blocking off stage road from 679 to n maple? How would you access allen's road by pilgrim lake if you were coming from 679? Also was greenbush paved before?.....I hate when they pave roads it takes away the pines character and leads to lots of road mortality of...

    Ancient Cedar Logs

Real interesting articles. I find it interesting that most of the white cedar swamps were in cape may county. I spend alot of time down there and quite honestly don't know of any real large intact cedar swamps....would have loved to seen it back then.

    Winzinger Update

Those look like snake drift fences to me........probably surveying for snakes. Lots of critters are going to die as a result of this...ashame. My question is I know t/e species live there I've seen them. Now if one of these species is on the property they should receive protection according...

    Pines panel hires chief scientist

OH yeah because working in the mortgage industry making several 100,000 dollars and subsequently sending the economy into a tailspin is much more deserved. I agree with Ben, this people are total fools they should educate themselves on what these people do before they start throwing stones.

    Beetle Traps

Pinepaddler, were they drift fence type traps? FPP, in the past has had insect drift fences out there. One time when I went there was only dead fowlers toads in them.

New Jersey State Program Helps OHV’ers Gain Access to Land

Mudboy, thanks for responding to my post. Seems you are really passionate about this thing and I respect that. I agree educating is the key, you are part of a group that gets alot of heat as I am with reptiles. Many CO's see me in the woods looking for snakes and automatically think I'm doing...

New Jersey State Program Helps OHV’ers Gain Access to Land

Mudboy, do people who are into your hobby sort of police eachother? For example I'm mainly into reptiles and ampibians. A issue with this hobby is some people collect these things illegally from the barrens. Now if I ever see anyone collecting I call conservation officers, or deal with it...

    Bobcat tracks

Jeff, sometimes they don't trigger, you may have set it too high. I normally set mine real low to the ground and otters have triggered it. I learned this through trial and error. But I did have a similar expierience were I had deer tracks all around my camera but no deer. I had my camera out...

New Jersey State Program Helps OHV’ers Gain Access to Land

I consider myself to be an environmentalist, and truely don't have issue with alot of ORV traffic. The woods is for everyone to use and many peoples money goes towards using it and preserving it. I would hope that the ORV community can police itself like other communities. I mean if you see...

Ah the pool off of the tracks.....wow that pool has been destroyed hasn't it. Doesn't seem to hold water like it use to, I sometimes wonder if that doesn't have something to due with quads and cars going through it.....I don't think thats his work, but more so Emile's or Louis. Fred is...
