Wow! I find it amazing how fast the new growth occurred!

It's a male juvenile Redtailed hawk. A guess on my part to why he was so docile is because a much larger female gave him a beating after rejecting his advances. This time of year the Redtails are nesting and raising their brood. There also some late season breeding occurring.

Pine snakes take to the defense rather quickly when you come up from behind on them. I see this example is demonstrating the classic defense posture of hissing and squaring up. The bigger they are, the more likely they are to look right at you, if you know what I mean!
