Pine Barrens in for late season hurricane or big northeaster?

The s**m-bag looters are going through this area too. Earlier, I received a call from a good samaritan, who saw the element backing a pickup through our shop gate. Luck was on our side and the thieves left with nothing. Six of the eight security cameras caught them in action. The power has been...

Pine Barrens in for late season hurricane or big northeaster?

The most surprising part of the storm, in this area, was the wind damage. It is terrible. Trees, houses, roofs, and entire lines of telephone poles destroyed. The power went out just before 4pm Sunday afternoon. All night the sky was lit by flashes of transformers and wires arcing. The loud buzz...

    Sandy aftermath

I hope everyone is at the least physically intact with no loss of loved ones. The last fifty-eight hours has been very tough but I understand it has been tougher on others. Ben, I wish you the best on what comes of your situation. Everyone else I am glad we are in one piece. I don't want to...

    Hunting in the Parker Preserve

Boyd, most of the cedar saplings in the Preserve are protected by fencing, but there still is a need to thin the population. The hunting pressure in the surrounding areas will push the animals onto the Preserve increasing their numbers there causing more damage by foraging.

    Nikon Coolpix L810

My niece loves the one she bought. It is perfect for what she uses it for, mostly sharing videos and pictures on Facebook. I was impressed with the colors that the camera was able to capture. Very vivid for a point and shoot. While she was over a few days ago, I was messing around with the...

Pine Barrens in for late season hurricane or big northeaster?

I am still trying to fathom where the massive amount of rainfall will go when the bay is full and the rivers start to back up their corridors. I think all of us will be effected by this storm. The lower barrier islands are going to be the hardest hit by the look of the predicted surges.

    Dunes or Deposits

Teegate you should make a hitch hikers guide to the Pine Barrens and note what is significant. ;) Thanks for the heads up! Thanks Ecampbell for the trail location.

    Dunes or Deposits

Thanks Ecampbell. I had a general idea where it could be. Is it state land? This is Owens Hill as located on the 1872 Ocean County map. (Governors Hill can just be seen in the lower left. It is another interest.)

    Dunes or Deposits

Teegate, no I haven't but it is on my to-do list. The hill you are speaking of is across from Moores Meadow Road correct? I also saw a small hill named Owens Hill somewhere near Wheatland on one of Ben's historic topos. I also wanted to visit that location someday. Without a doubt, Spungman...

    Dunes or Deposits

Bobpbx, to my untrained eye, the hills appear to be dunes, but what I am drawing from your explanation is that they could be the result of landscape evolution. If this could be the event that developed the hills would you take a another guess to if it was wind (katabatic?) or water that caused...

Pine Barrens in for late season hurricane or big northeaster?

It is reassuring to see forward thinking from our state officials this time. Governor Christie ordered the lowering of water levels in strategic reservoirs and lakes. A close friend of mine, who works for the DEP and advises the Governor, battled with the state when Irene made land fall to do...

I have always wanted to explore the cranberry bogs along Route 539, but haven't done so because I thought the property was private. Teegate's recent thread on the Wychwood Gun Club answered the question to who owned the property, so today I spent the half of the day exploring the area...

    Webbs Mill flooded again!

Teegate, you are a madman! The dam(n) material along the side of the road has been added this week. Nothing was there last Sunday and the only water on the road was a small flow just in front of the red leafed bush in your second picture. How did you bust up the dam with Jessica there?:D

Pine Barrens in for late season hurricane or big northeaster?

The narrative of dread has begun for the news channels. The big stations have begun to ratchet up the freak-out factor incrementally - it is all about what might happen. An update every moment with no new details and the Weather Channel just referred to the unseen details as "slow motion...

Pine Barrens in for late season hurricane or big northeaster?

I don't know about this one. I usually don't worry but for some reason I have a very bad vibe about this storm. I changed the oil in the generator, filled up the gas container, sharpened the blades on both chainsaws, and borrowed the large pump from work. I still have a bit of nervous energy...

    Wychwood Gun Club

Thanks Teegate. I was asking if the property carried over across the highway because I was interested in walking the area to take a closer look at the well defined squared off road surrounding some of the land and several "dunes" that run along Rt. 539. The squared off road can be seen in the...

Teegate, the gun club property includes the series of bogs on the opposite side of Rt 539 too?
