    Attention NJ Forest Fire Service

Bobpbx, I was referring to the posted break before the gates. It is bad. There are more similar to this..

    Attention NJ Forest Fire Service

The East Plains haven't escaped the wrath of the plow either. The Fire Service beat the hell out of a few areas there too. One in particular is the break just above Governors Pond (The Watering Hole) along the range boundary. It looks like a small canal was built.

    The NEW Beer Thread

I haven't done any of my own brewing, but recently I became familiar with the entire process. Early this winter, I helped my good friend and his father brew a batch of honey lager. I enjoyed being involved making it, and the results were awesome. Lately, I have been in a soda jerk phase...

Best Hiking in Southern Ocean County?

I just checked the Ocean County park's website and today is the only day that Wells Mills would be closed. Go for it! There might be a smoke aroma.:) http://www.co.ocean.nj.us/OCParks/

Best Hiking in Southern Ocean County?

The Fire Service was doing what they had to today at Wells Mills. I could see the smoke from Stafford Avenue by the bay. I took the long way home to see what was going on there and the trucks were lined up along Route 532 keeping an eye on the burn working its way from the highway towards the...

    Industrious, busy people

Fracking is something we don't need in New Jersey. The process is bad news. The list of chemicals used in the cocktail that is pumped into ground, I don't want to ever drink. The argument is that only a small percentage of the mix is added to the water that is used in fracking, but when hundreds...

A Golden Eagle Deep In the Pines

Rednek, again that is a great camera! The quality of the night photograph is very good. There is plenty of detail to be seen. The basic weather data is nice feature as well. The data on the bottom of the photo - Is that a standard now?

A Golden Eagle Deep In the Pines

Thanks for sharing the great photos, Rednek. I am also impressed with how well your game camera takes photographs. I can get a better sense of how big that eagle is by comparing it to the goose carcasses in your photographs. That is a big bird!

    Ticks..........

I am in agreement with Ecampbell and others with their choice of Guinea hens as an effective means of controlling insects and also mice. Purchase five or six from an auction and your neighborhood will be almost entirely free of pests. I can't think of anything negative from having Guinea hens on...

Question about development along Route 72 East

There are huge surveyor's grade rods on one corner of the property. The pair have day-glo pink elevation lines. Because of this, I think what is going on here is more than land clearing. - BTW, cool screen name. I had a '70 Torino Cobra Jet for awhile but sold it to get a '65 Sunbeam Tiger.

Teegate, I don't know if you need a 4x4 for the pines, unless you want to do serious offroading. I have a locker rear in my truck and good all terrain tires. I never had to put it in four wheel drive for a normal drive through the woods. Take in consideration that I benefit from ground clearance...

    old ruins found

Very cool find, Woodjin. This is one of many things I enjoy about the Pines, knowing there are hidden treasures still to be found. Did you check to see if any of the pottery had makers marks on them?

    A Seal in Great Bay

I had a today off, so my plan was to head out first thing this morning and see what I could come across. I had no specific plan in mind other than to hit Lucille's for breakfast, visit the radio tower nearby and then drive north up the coast from Great Bay looking for new areas to explore. Just...
