    Picnic

Why don't we all get together for a nice summer picnic somewhere? Everyone bring something. We can get a grill going and discuss life and the pines in general. Life is too short to just type away at each other. I'd really like to meet you all.

July 4 in the the Pine Plains

The family had split and none of my friends wanted to go out in the pines, so I went to the plains by myself. I damn near bought the farm again in rugged woods, was so hot I sweated out a quart. Here is how thick the woods were...

    Colliers Mills in May

Went with Ben today to explore more of Colliers Mills. I was really surprised at the beauty; the open fields, woods with huge oaks, the lake, cedar swamp, creeks. It is much more than I imagined, and I have been there 3 other times. Here's an iris at the lakeside...

    A Living Legend

Speaking of legends, guess who I saw today in the flesh and blood? None other than Bill Wasovich (sp?), the gentleman who visited Fred Brown a lot in John McPhees book. He looked EXACTLY like I pictured him to. He had on gum rubber boots to his knees, and an old-time looking ball cap that fit...

    Spring Afternoon Surprise

I went out for a run tonite with my dog Buddy behind Miller Airpark. I was running up and down the fire trails. All of a sudden I saw a flash of white-tail and Buddy took off after a deer. He does is all the time, but usually does not have much luck. Today was different. He started yipping...

    Forked River Mountains

I was in the Mountains today scouting places needing clean up. All the roads were, predictably, nasty wet. Here is the road to the Factory Branch. There is a stream running into a puddle that is about 50 yards long and Lord knows how deep...

    536 and 322

I frequently have to travel to Maryland on business, and I hate route 70 West of the Medford Circle. Wednesday I had to go again, so I says to myself; "Bob, try going down 206 to 536 West, then pickup 322 and sail on into the turnpike. It will be easier." Easier? Ha! Not easier. I can't...

    Wilderness Camp?

Anyone game? One night? Sit in chairs by the fire, roast a T-bone steak with beans as a side, then a beer or two?

    1933 Tour Guide

These are pretty neat if you haven't seen them. This one traveled route 38 (now 70 apparantly). You can jump on different tours at intersections. http://www.getnj.com/njags/tours/tour27.shtml Here is old 40 (72). Guy, note that they point out our forgotten fire tower by Coyle Field...

In the Pine Plains, Feb 2005

I closed my eyes and picked a spot on Terraserver in the plains to visit today. I was pleasantly surprised to find a nice clear running stream with a hard sandy bottom. My favorite kind of Pine Barren Stream. http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=241&pos=16...
