A different selection was planned for this morning, but sometimes you just have to wait in anticipation.

There is a video of them doing a full concert somewhere, maybe Youtube. They were one of those groups that played their songs in concert the way they recorded them for the album, without drifting into jams or innovations. Creedence Clearwater Revival did that too.I have that album. Many great songs on it.
The Hollywood Argyles did the original version of Alley Oop back in 1960, but Ray Stevens does have a way with novelty songs. Anyway, I know at least one mean motah scootah here who's a big fan of ol' Ray, and at his advanced age, it's good to try and keep him happy.
When I was, like 15, I was with this guy in Wrightstown at the old discount mart (can't recall the name, kind of like a woolworths). He lifted a can of shoe polish and the 45 record "Guitarzan" by Ray Stevens. I was struck dumb, and never said a word. But I was very disappointed when the State Police came and took us to their barracks across the street. And I always disliked that tune.I Prefer to sing it Alfie Oop! never heard Rays version of it before but as you say Ray is king of funny songs.
Apparently the guy wasn't very good at his chosen profession. I was goin with a girl when i was 17.Took her to the cumberland mall and she wanted to go in the gap.She took some clothes into the dressing room (I forget what it was) and I waited about ten minutes and out she came....without the clothes.I said where are the clothes you took in,she grabbed me by the arm and hustled me to the door the whole way I"m saying where are they,I was quite naive and more of a trespasser then a thief. She gets me oit the door and then smiled and pulled her top up to show me she had it on whatever it was under her clothes.I was pissed off, that was pretty much the end of that very quick relationship. She was a street urchin,I shoulda knew better but she was a good lookin street urchin. When I was, like 15, I was with this guy in Wrightstown at the old discount mart (can't recall the name, kind of like a woolworths). I was 15 years old when the original version was first recorded. It was inspired by V T Hamlin created comic strip of the same name. Alley Oop was a caveman. We had called one of the neighborhood kids 'Alley Oop' at the time. It just so happens he's my fishing buddy of 70 years. It was our interest in fishing that kept us close together for all these years. The Hollywood Argyles did the original version of Alley Oop back in 1960, but Ray Stevens does have a way with novelty songs.
