    Shoal Branch

I made it to about the same spot Bob. It is a beautiful river and gets pretty remote up there. I'll see if I can upload some shots from the last time I was there.

    Canoe trip in the pines

Nice report! that is a great stretch. It is also an area that was used extensively during the iron era. most of the evidence of it's past use have been reclaimed by nature and hard to see now. There are a lot of seeps/springs entering the river before lower forge and after the trestle on...

    Weymouth "Lake"

I grew up calling in Buckhorn (red bullet) at the Calf's head (for head of Calf Branch, a source of the Manumuskin) calling a pickerel a pike. S-M I've heard pineys and semi-pineys refer to pickerel as pike on many occassions. However, the article Jason cited did list pickerel, pike and bass...

    Iron in the Pines

Yes, that is a great chapter. It reads like a short story mystery full of local color. I haven't read it in ages, when i find the time I should re-read it.

    Great Swamp Branch

No, he meant deer flies and lymes disease.....he is weird that way.;) Nice pics. The great swamp branch is a pretty wild river. Unfortunately it has been impacted by invasive species (flora) due to a rise in PH and farms to the west.

    A Pine Barrens Mystery

I came across this on ebay. I wonder whatever happened to him. An internet search didn't provide any further detail, except an article in the Asbury Park Press from 1933, I don't have a subscription so I couldn't access the article. They state the car was found 5 miles south of chatsworth...

    Washington Tavern

The Sooy Tavern, later named Washington Tavern is further down the road. Those are commonly referred to as the Wharton pit silo or stables but I always thought that the construction looked like it pre-dated the Wharton area. I have wondered if it might have been around at the same time Sooy/...

What's the story behind the blue pond at Franklin Parker?

Come on now? We all know the Leeds Devil lives at the bottom of the blue holes and they are blue because that's how he likes it. Don't let all that science crap get in the way of the truth.:jd:

ORV Management In Sensitive Areas Of Wharton

Jon, Somewhat echoing Smoke Jumper's comment... The idea that the miles and miles of roads in Wharton could be maintained like they might in a small developed park is an unrealistic expectation. The amount of manpower needed to pull something like that off is way beyond the potential of even a...

ORV Management In Sensitive Areas Of Wharton

The proposed plan certainly is not going to be a cure all in it's infancy, but it is a step in the right direction with the potential to be effective. I agree that much of the work is going to fall on volunteers (and us) to monitor and report what is happening out there. I think it is...

PBX guys, I need a way into the bog

a lot of good suggestions. I wear sunglasses always (saftey glass would be better, but sunglasses are much cooler). I also were gloves, always. I realize a hiking stick is difficult when you have a lot of gear but it really comes in handy. It is good for both pushing brier aside and for...
