1859 Parry Sikes and Earl map of Burlington County

That is a teriffic map. Some of my family immigrated to Frankford in the 1800's. Frankford was the center of the textile industry in Philadelphia. They came from Manchester England and Munich Bavaria which were also textile centers. It's great to see the mills locations and where my familys...

A new "Then & Now" photo

Goodwater Bridge then and now. All pictures are looking north. I cropped the larger 2012 picture so it would show the same area as 1993. Me and Katie, 1993. 2012 A larger 2012 view. It's amazing how much the area has grown up.

Can you give me an ID on this little gem I found on a deer path off of Riders Switch?

    Drought coming?

The surface is certainly dry and crunchy but the Skit and Batsto rivers at Hampton Park are flowing well as of this morning. The water is clear, not deep but no exposed sand at the canoe launch. In the summer it is too shallow to paddle, but not now. I have been digging post holes on my...

    What is it?

There is/was a large crate near Hampton Park that was used as a blind. Did you touch it? It may be like the monolith in the movie 2001.

    Ticks..........

The old one for humans didn't work. The one for dogs seems to. My vet said she never had a dog that was vacinated test positive for Lyme. Then we are still left with all the other tick born diseases. Ticks will always be trouble.

    Curly Fern Enduro This Sunday

Al, the same thing happened to me several times. They came at me and pased on both sides of me at high speed, barely missing me. My wife ducked down in her seat. Do they suspend rules of the road, speed limits and courtest for these events? Your right, no warning, it was completely unexpected. I...

    Forked River Mountains Tour

I'm having trouble putting my finger on it except to say it is not inviting. It might be because it is so dense with scrub oak. I was thinking it was the lack of rivers, but then I reallky enjoy hiking the uplands of Wharton. In Wharton we can stop anywhere along a road and take a side trail or...

    Attention NJ Forest Fire Service

The area of that road is between the Batsto and the Skit, a fire wouldn't go anywhere. They were creating a pay day.

    Forked River Mountains Tour

On Wednesday I met up with Deepexplorer to visit an area we rarely see. We met at Wells Mills Park and then from there headed down Jones Road to find the mountain. That road needs some serious maintainance. We didn't know the roads so we just winged it, taking any road that headed in the right...

    Attention NJ Forest Fire Service

They butchered a beautiful road at Hampton Park. They ran their plow right down the center of the road and left a ditch. There was no effort to smooth it out and keep it usable. It is unwalkable, roots stiking up and very uneven groung. They could have shown respect for the road and forest and...
