Was the body found on the north or south side of Carranza Road? 250 feet back from Carranza Road at the location given is very tough going.

The Lost Causeways of the Skit Branch

I don't know why either but it is always clear when the water is very cold. We kayaked this section yesterday. The water was so high there was little drop over the dams. There were no obstructions from Carranza Road to the Skit branch bridge at Hampton Furnace. It took 1 hour, very fast...

Forest fire SW of Atsion Lake

That's where 206 is closed, the fire is south and west of the bridge. Interestingly the fire is west of the large fire in early August 2007. There's probably not alot of fule over there.

The Lost Causeways of the Skit Branch

That's one of our winter kayak standby's. It's short and sweet but we haven't done it since spring because of the low water, but low water exposes old bridges. It's very pretty but isn't paddled much and never cleared.

Forest fire SW of Atsion Lake

I left my house at 3:30 to go into Tabernacle and didn't notice any smoke. Traveling back south on 206 at 3:45 I saw a huge cloud of smoke. I continued to atsion where 206 was closed and emergency vehicles were arriving. With the wind and being so dry this could be bad.

    Martha bridge is out

We were hiking the Batona Trail today and found this. I am not sure it has been posted before. They made a real mess of the pines digging this sand pile A couple of rotten boards, I did not look at the bridge supports Half finished barriers on both sides Obviously this is not a...

Horseback riding in Pine Barrens Courier-Post

I've seen people with rope corrals at the Batona Camp. I don't know what the Park Police think about that but I know dogs are not allowed. We did some moonlight rides out of Carranza up past Apple Pie Hill. Since someone painted the monument there are signs "closed dusk to dawn", like that's...

Horseback riding in Pine Barrens Courier-Post

I've been riding in Wharton since the late 70's. What is really great is that you can get close to wildlife. They don't see us as humans when on horseback. Cyote, fox, deer don't spook much. We even had fawns follow us. Turkeys are another matter.

    old School Charcoaling

Interesting that charcoalers were called colliers and merchant ships which transport coal are also called colliers, and this goes all the way back to the days of sail.
