    Well stated!

    Controlled burn?

Okay, I'll buy that. That is a common theory and good argument. But it is my understanding that a controlled burn would not inhibit pine growth (or favor oak growth) which is what I thought you were implying in your post. Jeff

    Controlled burn?

Just the oppisite is true. Fire helps to maintain the ecology we are familar with (pine dominant). Jeff

    Controlled burn?

Bob, I know that you know the benefits and importance of fire in the barrens. I recall that you have questioned wheather the prescribed burns are hot enough to have an effect on the proliferation (spelling) of pine. So I would assume that your real concern is with the fire clears rather...

    Wind

My self and another guy pulled a large pine off of new road in tabernacle. Then I came across a very large oak on Patty Bowker road that was unmoveable without a chainsaw. Crazy amounts of blowdowns.

Pine Barrens Book/CD Signing at the Sweetwater Casino

It was great seeing everyone there at the sweetwater event. Very nice to meet alot of new people. I realize after reading this thread that I missed a few people from the forum here, unfortunitely. Gabe, liked the song alot. Sounded like an authentic 1700's ballad perfect as a tribute to the...

    Chatsworth Atv park

While getting a picture without being noticed may be a bit difficult. Memorizing a license plate # (in the case of an illegal dumper) or driving away and calling the police seems fairly safe. Jeff

    Group get together?

That is a generous offer Trailhead. My drummer did a fill in with a band that played that bar in there. (Flash Cube) I went there that night. Set a date and I will see if I can make it.

    Deadly Traps in Wharton SF

Wow, there are seriously sick people out there. I remember seeing a kid on a talk show a number of years ago that was riding a dirt bike and ran into a neck level wire set there by the property owner. He barely survived but is now mute and slightly disfigured. This was a terrible thing...

Give me a list of "Must See's"

Hmm,that might be it. It is really not that close to the fire tower footings, and I think faces west. I think we are thinking of a different spot. Jeff

    "Where are the Pine Barrens?"

It amazes me also. I teach alot of people in Medford and Mt. Laurel and Marlton and, believe it or not, most of them don't know where the pinebarrens are. And even if they do, they think it is like a 5,000 acre park. I know, hard to believe but it is true. There are people that live in...

Give me a list of "Must See's"

In addition to the Forked river Mountains, there is another spot in close proximity that is a fantastic view. I had discovered it on my own sometime back and then PBXBob mentioned it to me and I realized it was the same spot. We went up there one day. Bob showed me a spot near to the spot I...

    Atsion: Old and Renewed

Great photos Jerseyman! Such a difference from today. It is often difficult to get a perspective from old photos compared to modern day, the reference point is hard to determine. It is amazing how cleared everything was in the past. Jeff

I got to this thread a little late. Looks like you got alot of info Bob! I hope you have alot of fun out there with your dad. I'll hook you up with a few more fishing spots as the weather gets a little warmer. Or if you want to risk some real sluggish fish I'll give them to you now. Jeff
