    More spotters

Yeah selling turtles is only illegal in New Jersey to my knowledge. However if you have a proper permit you can posses turtles in new jersey and most states. You can basically buy any turtle you want online, some people believe it or not attempt to make a living by doing this. I know my dad...

    More spotters

Yeah I've exhausted the internet on bog turtle research I think. I know the courier post article about kresson golf course. I've played golf on that course and I would say that there is a about a 10% chance of a bog being there. The habitat is pine barrens like and if they were there they...

I know exactly what website your talking about. The towns listed on that website are of historic records, and are exactly that historic. It has audubon, camden county listed on there and I can assure you there are none in audubon, same with cherry hill, and voorhees. At one time these towns...

Daved before you respond please be general about the location of a bog. They are highly endangered and can fetch a big price tag in the illegal turtle trade. To my knowledge bogs have been eradicated in all southern counties except salem. Are you sure your friend saw a bog?

What an Hour in The Pines

Yeah being that I've never been to texas it was just kind of written without any thought behind it(I tend to do this sometimes). It was kind of in reference to dave's gene pool quote(which I found very comical). I apologize if I offend anyone. chris

What an Hour in The Pines

Yeah when young kids kill animals like that it is kind of a sign of much more serious problems.

What an Hour in The Pines

You have to be a least half retarded to get a laugh out of putting a turtle on a fence post and watching the sun bake it. But then again we were talking about texas so...

What an Hour in The Pines

Mr. Turtle probably got attacked as a result of becoming exposed during hibernation would be my guess. Red bellies don't venture on land all that much, normally just to lay eggs. Obviously it wasn't laying eggs, and since they rarely sleep on land, my guess is it was buried in muck that became...

    Dwarf Pine plains

Dave, saw about a dozen black vultures down at Thompson beach road a month ago. Haven't seen any that I can remember in the actual pines though. Here some pics,

What an Hour in The Pines

From my experience raccoons normally flip turtles over like that. Once flipped they attack the limbs, I'm sure when you go back the limbs will be nibbled on. Also this turtle could have been sunning yesterday and was sluggish still making it real vulnerable to an attack.

    Various turtles

I could never find spotted before either, but recently what I have been doing is just sitting at an area I find ideal and waiting for them to pop there heads up. It was pretty successful the last two days.

    More spotters

Yeah yesterday when I went out I would see about 10 painters or redbellies for every spotted. But that is what I was expecting, painters and redbellies lay more eggs per clutch, and are less prone to being attacked by raccoons because of their ability to live in deeper water than spotters. I'm...

    More spotters

Yeah I've never been out to but I want to get out there looks like a good spot for spotted turtles. I went back some dirt trail off caranza and ended up at some area with similar looking wet meadow bogs, but the day was to cold to see any reptiles. You guys see spotted turtles alot? I always...

    Various turtles

First time I have seen spotters in new jersey. All my other experience were in pennsy were I did most of my hiking. Should find some more today, hopefully. I think I saw so many due to mating activity, all males out looking for mates. My guess is there was one female lurking that I didn't...

    Various turtles

Went out to the pines today for a couple of hours on a spur of the moment type thing. I basically hit a gold mine as far as wildlife is concerned. For the first hour of my hike I was basically seeing nothing. However, around mid afternoon I stumbled upon some wet woodlands where i noticed some...

    Ruffed Grouse

Thanks for the site scott, can't tell how big they were from that picture. Guessing that is a half dollar coin in the picture. The ones I saw were probably about the size of a quarter same shape though. I agree there is something very disturbing about a species dying out. My main...
