    Musk turtles

Went out to one of my spotted turtle spots today. Saw about 4-6 mostly females, all were basking and my attempts to catch them were futile. However I must have stumbled upon the first day of breeding season for musk turtles. In all saw about thirty and then stopped counting, most were swimming...

    Poisin OAK

I use to use caladryl lotion it worked pretty good. I think your best bet is going to a doctor and getting some steroids, or meds they can provide they always have access to the best stuff. Poison oak is bad in oregon, my brother in law is from roseberg and they use to have goats to eat the...

    83-A good number

That is not normal behavior, at least I think it isn't. He was getting pissed off which is why his quills in his back are starting to rise, and his teeth were chattering like most rodents do. He was simply warning me that I was getting to close. I adhered to his warning, and walked away.

    Great Forum

I like the picture of the spotted. His/her shell is much different then many of the spotteds I've seen. It is much more carved out like that of a wood turtle or bog. Most of the spotters I've encountered have very, very smooth shells. Once again nice pics.

    help with a hognose

Wild animals belong in the wild, however do not release animals that have been in captivity, they could have diseases which could wipe out an entire population. As for feeding them fowler's toads they are also a species of concern in new jersey to my knowledge. Your best bet is the maybe find...

    What happened to Whitesbog

Here is a photo, they really dug up everything plants, small trees, etc. It kind of sucks I went down to look for spotted turtles and there habitat or possible habitat had been completely bulldozed. However, the american kestrels seem to be enjoying the new terrain, first time I've seen them at...

    What happened to Whitesbog

Went down to whitesbog to look for reptiles today, ended up seeing just painters. However I did see an adult bald eagle soaring over some empty bogs, first one I've seen in the pines. Also saw a good amount of kestrels hovering over some empty bogs which I don't see too much. One thing I was...

    NJ Alien...or not.

Good stuff, I have seen one dead red eared slider at whitesbog last summer. He was really old looking and big. Always nice to see spotted pics, looks like you came across quite a few, thought that one was a bog for a second, but then I realized you were in the pines. Nice pics.

    Name that weasel!!

I thought long tail, thinking it was the only weasel in s. jersey, but I'm not familar with all the mammals of s. jersey. As far is its curiousity and playfulness, they almost at like a domesticated pet. I have seen mink and they are very trustworthy, but always stay just far away to be safe...

    OK, what's this?

I thought it looked like a scapula too when I first saw it. Pretty strange looking, nice find.

    More spotters

Yeah no trees is the key, the area needs to be a sun soaked area. I'm sure the area near the road may have been habitat at one point but as the trees grow bogs will move on to more suitable habitat. Thats why it is key to let the state know if bogs are there so they can manage the inavsive...

    Question

Are you allowed to hunt red fox and racoon in new jersey? Is there a season for these two animals? Also I thought only coyotes out west howl, I remember hearing or reading this somewhere.

    Pileated Woodpecker

Saw a pileated today down in woodstown, not the pines but close. I was golfing and he was hammering away on a tree for a good two hours. First one of I've seen in new jersey.

    More spotters

Yeah I don't think any of them lived long enough because with natural sunlight or artificial light they will die of soft shell. Hatchlings turtle need the sun to harden there shell if not will suffer lots of problems.
