i don't think Swainson's normally occurs out here... any hawk that looks like that is likely a cooper's or sharp-shinned. I've seen plenty of both on the outskirts of the pines

I'd recommend picking up Michael D. Geller's "A Key to the Woody Plants of the New Jersey Pine Barrens". The guide is formatted as a dichotomous key vs. a picture and description guide.

before you can develop on land you have to hire a consultant to come out and monitor for T&E species (we all know the deal with this), which includes several obligate and falcutative vernal pond species (although i question how precise their site surveys are).
