Bitten by a dog (DOG BITE PHOTO)

Hopefully the dog was just scared from being lost. Glad nobody, including the dog, got hurt.

    Another dumb question

God forbid I should actually take the time to look it up. Definitions: Macadam Macadam Adjective 1. Covered with paving material. Noun 1. Broken stone used in macadamized roadways. 2. A paved surface having compressed layers of broken rocks held together with tar.

    Another dumb question

In recent readings I've seen "macadam" roads mentioned. Would that be what I've come to know as a chip and seal road? Tar sprayed down and then stone added to make an asphalt like surface? I'm pretty sure that's what it is but I just wanted "official" confirmation. I'm sure there are lots of...

    Whites Bog and Buckingham, 4-19-08

Great story and pics Mark. Another place on the "check it out" list. Does your wife know about this other woman you're roaming the pines with?:)

    Birch Trees

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought they were white birches in the pines.

Bitten by a dog (DOG BITE PHOTO)

Sue, you hit it on the head with everything you said. Macho BS gets alot of people hurt and alot of dogs put down that would be fine pets if the owners weren't such idiots. Well said Sue. Reminds me, I hope the days are dragging for Mike Vick.

    Birch Trees

Are White Birch trees not as common as they once were? It may just be a part of childhood memories but I seem to remember them being more abundant a very long time ago. My grandparents had a house on Lake Pine and it seemed like they were in every yard. Maybe they were the "in" tree back in...

Why can't I lose this gut?

So much great advice here. I was very happy to see Sue mention "Supersize Me". This little documentary got me to stop eating fast food completely. It doesn't just apply to McDonalds. Fast food is poison and sad to say, chinese isn't far behind it. Watch all the sauces, whatever they may be...

Introduction and a few newbie questions.

Welcome AJ, I'm no expert but I can help with some of your questions. I'd be surprised if you didn't see anyone after the nice weather this week, unless they are calling for rain. Your car should be fine at the fire tower. My friends and I just completed the Batona and we left our cars all...

    USGS Pond Numbers

Thanks Piney, I thought maybe there was a list of names for these ponds. The elevations makes perfect sense. If you look at the first pond you come to after leaving Atsion on the Quaker Rd it has a 32 and the pond upstream has a 33. I think we have good flow! Jay

    Franklin Map Store

The funny thing about this guy is he says he wrote a book on microsoft word. He may have been cranky but he didn't strike me as a BS artist. Could just be someone who enjoys being cranky. By the way, Batsto is the cheapest place I've found for topo maps. Jay

    USGS Pond Numbers

I've noticed that some ponds and lakes on the USGS quads have numbers on them. While I was at the Franklin Map store, I asked Mr Internet what these numbers were and he said they were depths but, when we looked at a map, the numbers were too large to be depths. He then took out the USGS key...

    Franklin Map Store

I'm glad to see it wasn't just me. There was only room for one opinion in that store and it sure wasn't mine, no matter how I tried to explain the good things about the internet. He may not like it but, the customer is always right.

    Franklin Map Store

I stopped in the store today and spoke with the manager about the store closing. He said he was just going on vacation on the 26th but the store will remain open at least through the year. He said he wants to retire but the store owners want him to stay on because they have a three year lease...

    Hiking Trails

I just finished the Batona and the Mullica trails and I'm already jonesing for another pines hike. I noticed there was another pink marked trail at the end of the Batona near Absegami. Anyone know anything about this trail? How long? Any other trails in the pines? Thanks, Jay

    Walking Sticks

Recently, while I was roaming around near Evan's bridge, I noticed several small cedars that were blown down. I was wondering if there is any penalty for taking a blow down and if it is okay, how are they as walking sticks? Jay

    Batona Trail hike

Nice map Mr. Allen. Misspelled Wharton and extended the trail to a few miles past the Parkway.
