    Secret of the painted rock

Love the artwork on the cover. Obviously done by a veteran Piney. I need to go looking for that lighthouse on the hill next to the mountain. That's down on 539, right? Jay

    Batona Trail hike

The times are very impressive but it just doesn't sound like much fun to me. It's kind of intriguing though. Definitely something to try in the cold weather.

    Online Photos

Can anyone recommend an online photo storage site? I currently have some photos in Shutterfly but I don't like it very much. For all I know, it may just be one of the better ones out there. I'm just looking to get a consensus on what's the easiest and highest quality site out there. I'm also...

    Batona Trail hike

Very impressive Mr. Coz. I still laugh at myself for only doing 4 miles each time out on my first two stretches of the Batona. Sounds like you are flying through. Remember to stop and check out the beauty of the pines along the way. Jay

Planned rally at Brendan Byrne 5/17

This weekend at Parvin SP there will be what I thibk is a good chance to have two good deeds put in the ledger. There's going to be an MS Walk on Sunday and I see that as a fine chance to spread the word about the BBSF rally and to help a good cause. The fine folks at Bel Haven Paddlesports...

Don't you mean Corzines advocate? There's hiking for one. The Batona Trail heads through there and the Mt Misery trail is a great trail that has just about everything along it except ruins. You should really check it out, the bogs are amazing! Jay

    Non Pines History Question

This could be what I'm thinking of. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~itcherok/images/cn-east.gif http://www.smokymtnmall.com/mall/cindians.html I think the pre Trail of Tears Cherokee Nation may be what I'm thinking of. Jay

    Non Pines History Question

Thanks Ben and Tom. I had been googling "mountain empire" before posting my question and came up empty also. The area I seem to be remembering may be a little farther south. Also, the attempt to make a state or country, whatever it may have been could have just been a scheme not unlike some...

    Non Pines History Question

I spent the a long weekend in SW Virginia along the Blue Ridge Parkway near the Peaks of Otter being support for a couple friends hiking the AT. While watching the weather, the weatherman refered to a region as the "mountain empire". I'm curious, wasn't there once an attempt to make this...
