New book profiles people who are at home in the Pine Barrens

My condolences to his family. I have good memories of conversations I had with him when we went to his farm to pick berries.

Century MovieTheater in Audubon NJ is coming down

I understand the emotions over the destruction of our history. I went to the movies at the Harwan and the Century, and hated to see them torn down. I also don't like the traffic. But South Jersey is my home, and I don't know if I'll be able to easily move away. Those of you that have moved, was...

    new JD site launched....

That area is near home for me and I'm out there often. I'm sort of glad the woods get little attention. Except for shotgun season, I usually have it to myself. I have hunted during permit bow and not seen any other hunters. I've spent many hours canoeing the stream through the area and have...

    Deep Hollow Campground

It's been awhile since I was at the Deep Hollow area but the trash is a problem all over the pines. I was out to the Harrisville/Martha area on Saturday. Soda cans, beer cans, food wrappers, tires, etc... I usually pick up stuff, but I could spend every hike cleaning up and never get to actually...

    When is Hunting Season Over?

For most zones, January 31st is the last day of winter bow for deer. There are some zones that stretch the season to February 16th for winter bow and permit shotgun. I would have to check the map on the DEP website to see where they are located.

    Any trail runners out there?

Lately that's me. I take my dog out in the woods, she runs and I limp along behind. I'm pretty sure that she runs circles around me just for spite :) .

    Any trail runners out there?

Robert, welcome to the site. I would be interested in the future, but am presenty injured (and going crazy!!). I hope to be able to run the trails again by January or February if all goes well with rehab, but I most likely will not be able to go very far for awhile. What pace do you run? I'm not...

    Birding Season Begins!

Thanks for posting the pictures. I also went to Brigantine last week (the day it poured). I never saw so many Cormorants. The Bittern was a great find, they are tough to see. This is a good time of year there with all the fall migrations. The Peregrines are there. I had my own private air show...

    I have now seen everything.

I saw a group of guys running in the pines once, sans all of their clothing. Besides being speechless, I had this same thought.

    Rowan University

The company I presently work for does a lot of work at Rowan. I go there all the time and have never, not once, been asked for any type of identification. We also never go to that convenience store because of the crowd that hangs out there, seemingly at all hours. I have 2 kids in different...

    Last Call

Thanks for the post. I've been trying to get in that "last paddle" but my last 2 Friday's off have been really windy and I hiked instead (which was not a bad thing). I'm going to try again this Friday. Not sure where yet.

Does the recreation here die down in the summer.

Pickerel will bite any time of the year. I fish, as long as the water is open, all year.

    Chatsworth Cranberry Festival

That Friday was the day the cold front came through. It was like casting in a wind tunnel. I couldn't get my canoe out in the wind, I used waders. I managed to catch 1 pickerel, but I spent most of the day exploring the marshes, and bird watching. Saw some interseting stuff. Also, the lake level...

New book profiles people who are at home in the Pine Barrens

I saw this at B & N and at Buzby's. It brought back some good memories for me. Among other things, there is a short piece about Albertus Pepper (bluberry Farmer in the Chatsworth area). Years ago we used to go to his farm to pick, he was always so nice. We all called him Mr Pepper.

    Chatsworth Cranberry Festival

I fished at Chatsworth last Friday and stopped in at Buzby's, for the purpose of picking up your cd. I spent about an hour talking to Marilyn (what a neat lady!) and got so side tracked with the conversation that I was home before I realized I had forgotten the cd (age thing I guess). I did get...

    eep Spider!

So there is someone else who saves Spiders? My wife had a wolf spider plop down into her sink in the lab at school where she teaches. The kids were screaming at her to kill it. She put it in a cup and carried it out to the woods behind the school and let it go. The kids couldn't believe any one...

Adirondacks pictures I'm only getting a red x instead of the pictures. I tried to right click on the x to open but that didn't work either.

    Dead deer in the Mullica

Intersting post. I was on the Batsto fishing 2 weeks ago. I don't think I smelled anything unusual, but I'm glad I decided to skip the swim anyway.

A PBX Hike, The Warren Grove Wildfire 6 Months Later

You had perfect weather on Saturday. Great pictures, thanks for posting them. Glad you had pictures of the Pine Barren Gentian. I had a chance to go out to the fire area on Friday (my day off) and saw some growing in the burned out area and was not sure of their name. I was amazed to see wild...
