I wonder what the relation was between Samuel Howell and Benjamin Howell. I had always assumed it was Benjamin Howell that was involved with Hanover.

Hrm, I remember talking to the folks who run the NJORV park and they said that one of the reasons they did not buy Pioneer Smelting was because they could not afford the remediation.

I think he moved out of state as well.

I used to get worked up over this too. (See my exchanges with the PPA.) Cjage does have a point. The NJORV folks could have raised enough money to buy land and move the operations elsewhere. Given that the state hasn't even been able to get approval from several municipalities to host a park...

I think it's more or less that they don't want ATV's on their land anymore. That's just conjecture though.

The NJCF has specifically said that they do not want to renew the lease on the park.

Have you complained to the town about the puddles?

If it truly is private property then they have a right to close it. Obviously I am not one to suggest that we close off the Pines to the public. I have been very vocal about open access. I just hate to see private property ruined by inconsiderate folks. The misanthrope in me just can't seem to...

The mansion was originally a Greek Revival. That was quite the rage in those days. The state did *something* with the siding in the 50's to stabilize the building. I imagine it was either originally brick or had clapboard siding. What they put on the 50's appears to be a thin faux block veneer...
