Batsto and Atsion: A Quick Saturday Adventure

I thought I remembered hearing someone say it had been converted.

Is that really a rabid cat? I've never seen a rabid animal before.

Batsto and Atsion: A Quick Saturday Adventure

I don't mind paying if I'm going to stay a while. If I was just popping in and then back out I wouldn't pay. You could always park along the access road and walk in.

Batsto and Atsion: A Quick Saturday Adventure

I think they've been doing it for some time now. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day they charge to park at Batsto and Allaire. Sometimes they don't charge during the week at Allaire. No idea about Batsto.

Batsto and Atsion: A Quick Saturday Adventure

My wife hasn't been feeling well, so I decided to take Dana out for the day. The destination was Batsto. Gas has gotten cheap enough where I don't feel guilty about making the drive, plus we had done Allaire the previous weekend. Somehow I always end up on the Parkway on the weekend. I've...

Yes, I was by myself. Maps of the area aren't really helpful because the density of the vegetation in swamp makes an aerial photo somewhat useless, and the old Batsto Road that goes through the swamp disappears, gets narrow, or you have to leave it to get around obstacles in some spots. In...

I don't know how far into the woods you've been but there's plenty of places were you can't hear anything. Walking in a straight line through the wilderness - especially one that's featureless like a dense forest - is very hard. Going through the Pines is not like crossing the Serengeti, but...

Which is damn near impossible to do without sighting something and walking towards it. I've been turned around many, many times in the woods, and that's even using my GPS. When I was lost in Mordecai swamp, I was genuinely worried about getting out okay.

I think it's more military training vs real survival training ala the Tracker classes. I think the PPA also offers wilderness survival classes.

I think it was paved at one point in time. With Friendship gone, why pay to maintain a paved road?

    Light Pollution

When NYC had their big blackouts a few years ago, many of my friends were telling me how amazing it was to see the night sky from the five boroughs. Me, I'm happy to see stars in Brick.

    Speedwell, Dutchtown Bogs

You didn't get a chance to see anything at Speedwell? I'd really be interested to see the furnace site. The dedication stone you found has been broken since at least 2004, when I came across it.

No -- I had Dana with me, and I was afraid she's get dirty/bit by bugs and Laura would yell at me. I bet it's either a Ford or Buick.
