It's quite easy to get up to, actually. Here's a Google Maps view of the top of the hill.

http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=39.848744,-74.287019&spn=0.011202,0.021672&t=h&z=16

I usually come in off of 539 on Bryant Rd., and take that until it turns to the right and heads SE. Stay with it until this intersection...

http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=39.828305,-74.333678&spn=0.005603,0.010836&t=h&z=17

... where you keep left. If that road has a name I don't know what it is, but it will take you straight up to the north side of the hill, and you'll find some roads leading up to the clearing at the summit, where the old fire tower used to be. The view is really great, and from the north side you can see the hangars at Lakehurst. If you walk a little northeast of the tower on the sand road you'll come out at a small clearing perched on the side of the hill where the view northward is really something.

From there you can go back to the noname road and continue northeast to pick up the line of the old railroad, take that south to Longridge, and then take Longridge west back to Bryant and out.

All the roads are tough, especially the northern sections of noname, and the old railroad right of way. Longridge and Bryant are probably the smoothest rides in the bunch. I wouldn't take a car up there just due to the deep sand in some areas.

BTW, as mentioned, Bridge 74 is right by Chatsworth where the Blue Comet derailed, and the bridge at Atsion behind the Cotton Mill is Bridge 79. So between Chatsworth and Atsion there are 4 other bridges, with one traversing the Batsto mentioned in this thread.

Ok, I now have the details. Bridge 74 is as mentioned above.

Bridge 75 is over the Batsto even though the JCRR records call it the Hampton Creek. The bridge is 127 feet long.

Bridge 76 spans Deep Run located here.

Bridge 77 spans Springer Brook and is located here.

Bridge 78 I don’t have the map for, but it is somewhere between these two locations. I have been there and taken photo’s and can’t find them.

In addition to the Forked river Mountains, there is another spot in close proximity that is a fantastic view. I had discovered it on my own sometime back and then PBXBob mentioned it to me and I realized it was the same spot. We went up there one day. Bob showed me a spot near to the spot I had already found and it was amazing!! I had missed it on my own. One of the best vistas in the barrens. I'll let Bob provide you with directions if he reads this. He might PM you on this,

By the way Bob(pbx), I still need to go there in the spring when the flowers are in bloom (as per your suggestion).

I bet I know the one, if it is off a sand road near the fire tower footings, and faces NE looking out across the pines in the direction of Lakehurst.

Great! Pass along some photo's if you go. I believe one of the bridges is out so you may have to plan accordingly if you walk. I have been to them but for some reason can find the photo's and can't remember exactly if it is truly out.

Shouldn't be a problem for YETI.
If you would see YETI's truck you would know that the average bridge out is merely a speedbump. He's got one of those beauties that would send Russ J. into cardiac arrest. BIG.

Hmm,that might be it. It is really not that close to the fire tower footings, and I think faces west. I think we are thinking of a different spot.

Nice that you and your dad get along well. The end of march is a good time anyway, unless the ticks are out.

Guy, went out today with my family. We started the day by going up Chew rd. toward 206 and making a right at the tracks towards, I believe, the Albertson trestle. Somehow we didn't find it. Guess we'll just have to try again. We then made our way to Hampton rd. We checked out Hampton furnace then we drove to the tracks. I took a trail off Hampton right before the bridge if your heading back toward 206. We saw trestles 76, and 77. We walked along the tracks towards 78 but got as far as Stokes rd. before we turned around and went back to the truck. Next week we plan on going back to find #78. I will also provide pictures. Also found a tick. I HATE TICKS.

Glad to see you found them. I usually save my track work for the summer when the woods are too dense to stone search. I will have to visit them again because I can't find the photo's.

Try going in off of 206 for the Albertson.
