Which bay?

Ludlam Bay is about 100 yards from my front door and a man made canal is about 10 feet from my back door. The streets are already flooded and this storm is still more than 500 miles away. There is a reason I don't want to evacuate my home that I don't want to broadcast on a public form. If it wasn't for that, I would go inland with relatives.

I think I have prepared for this storm pretty well. I have potato chips, coloring books and a candle.

I couldn't find my coloring books but among the stuff I just packed is a bandsawed decoy blank and my carving tools. I'll stay occupied, wherever I end up.

Why are the water levels so high already in Mays Landing?

I was wondering the same thing and assumed it was just the high tide? But maybe we are already seeing the beginning of a storm surge? Don't get me wrong, it is not flooding yet there, but the water level is quite a bit higher than what I usually see and the bases of trees along the banks are already partially submerged. Low parts of Mays Landing had flooding problems during Irene.

Looking at the track again (see link in my earlier post), they have shifted it South again, with landfall around Ventnor, then crossing right through Mays Landing and heading towards Wilmington DE.

I don't think there's going to be much of a problem until tomorrow night. That's when it's supposed to come ashore. I don't expect I'll get much sleep Monday night. But even if we lose power, I'll still have more conveniences available to me when than when I go backpacking. I'll have a roof over my head (hopefully ) and I have enough water, non-perishable food and propane cannisters to keep me going for two months. If the gas is still working I can use my fireplace. Granted, they'll be no TV or internet, but I have enough "D" batteries to run a radio for 1,000 hours. And if I get bored I can always go out on patrol around town and shoot looters.

I am still trying to fathom where the massive amount of rainfall will go when the bay is full and the rivers start to back up their corridors. I think all of us will be effected by this storm. The lower barrier islands are going to be the hardest hit by the look of the predicted surges.

I usually have to step down to get on my boat, but not today and the worst is yet to come. They told us we are under mandatory evacuation by 6 PM Sunday evening.

They announced a voluntary evacuation of my neighborhood a few hours ago. I'm in the process of packing but I think I'll leave only if things look bad.

Be careful Ben, when things look bad it is probably too late. Go to a nice hotel and relax .

High tide in Lower Bank was 10:30 a.m...... even though the tide is "going out", the water is continuing to rise steadily. We went door to door along the riverfront homes this morning notifying people that 911 may not be able to send a response under certain conditions during the storm and offering them a place to wait it out. Usually the National Guard will send a truck or two for severe events.... none available at this time, they are assisting with evacuations on the barrier islands. We asked folks to exercise extreme caution. Good news is our reverse 911 system seemed to work pretty well on its maiden voyage.

Gov. Christie called and told us to stay home tomorrow.....

I brought in my propane camp lantern and intend to enjoy the luxury of a good book after my volunteer duties....

Depends on where you are Ben, might not be able to get out. My son is in TR east of Fischer, and he's decided to stay put.

Yeah, that's the problem. You need to decide whether to stay or go very soon. As the storm develops, trees and power lines will fall across the roads, water will rise. You don't want to get caught in the middle of that in your car with no way out.

Hey Boyd just looked at the update looks like that is coming in, right over your neck of the woods

Yes, as I said above the current projected track takes it right through Mays Landing. They didn't get that quite right with Irene last year though, I don't think they can get that precise at this point. And I really doubt that it matters whether you are right in the center or 40 miles away when the storm is 400 miles wide anyway.
