    The blue comet

Back then it was a 4lb burger for 1 person, and I think a 20lb for 4, and 10 people for the 50 pounder. Still wild.

Whoa, I didn’t know the Clinton diner car was from the Blue Comet! I’ve been meaning to go there.

    Constable Bridge

We made it around the washouts on Middle Road. There was one tricky squeeze go-around, but we made it in an Outback and two Subaru Crosstreks. It's fun going through washouts that are iced over. They crunch. But you need a metal hiking pole to test the depths...

    Constable Bridge

Thanks for the warnings. I’ll see if we can get around it a different way. When the thread started, people said Constable Bridge was passable, but I‘m guessing that’s from Batsto …

    Constable Bridge

I was thinking of driving there from Atsion, using "Railroad Ave" which becomes Batsto Fireline Road, then Atsion-Batsto Road. Has anyone traveled it recently?

Deep Washouts on Lower Forge - Recovery

The road was fine until the intersection with Tuckerton. No different than any other single lane road in the area. Better than Railroad Ave. And hello to the driver of the black 4Runner who knew my name! I'm an internet celebrity now.

Deep Washouts on Lower Forge - Recovery

Last Sunday I met a bunch of drivers a Atsion to explore before they camped for the night. Unfortunately, their leader drove into a deep washout and gunked up his engine. He managed to get the GPS coordinates to me and I led the crew out there to tow him out. Take care out there. This is on...

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

They want to make this apply to everything, which is egregious overreach. People are going to get tickets for driving to parks that used to be free. It's gentrifying the forest, they want to keep people out.

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

This is what Fix Our Parks sent out to have their members cut and paste into the Survey. They also attached a .kmz file with large areas around Friendship and Quaker Bridge for "walking and nonmotorized vehicles only." I can't attach the kmz file but I have shared it here: the kmz file All orgs...

    Devil’s Hairbrush

Thanks, Bob. I plan on going back and exploring all the roads off Pomeroy's Corner, and seeing what I can see. Let's just say I don't have the best sense of direction. I've managed to get my phone behaving with offline maps, and I downloaded Boyd's maps to my old Garmin Nuvi, so that should...

Illegal off-road vehicles continue to tear up N.J. forests. Advocates push for crackdown.

I think it's a cultural thing. City people tend to think of ATVs and dirt bikes as "trashy" and think they know all about "people who like that stuff." Same with trucks for off-roading. So it's very easy to blame this on "rednecks" and rile up people who hardly ever visit the Pinelands.

I'm glad someone tagged it with the silly name, because otherwise I never would have found it.

Natural gas is up, too. So as much as I love snow, I’m not minding the forecast.
