    Worms....

Well, they're here. We were near, um, I'd say Washington yesterday, when we stopped in an area that had a lot of chestnut trees. The gentle poop rain was apparent, and when we looked up, we could see that the trees had been totally devastated. The leaves that remained looked like swiss cheese. :(

Gah. I tried to get a permit to put in a new furnace and air conditionar last month, but the application was so completely incomprehensible. they just handed me a tome of paperwork and an accompanying attitude, and it seemed that none of the applications had anything to do with what I planned to...

Well, yeah, that's the first thing I thought of, and I understand how the township is concerned that this guy is trying to handle that much gas. They will never let him put those tanks in, so he's wasted a huge amount of money. He'd be better off moving to Wyoming.

Fascinating. If you look at his property with Google Earth, you can see those big tanks. Apparently, he's been trying to do this for quite a while. At least I think that's what they are.

It's impossible to get a permit in East Amwell. The guy would do much better to move and try it in another town. They require you to obtain a permit to move a gardening shed, (and no, I am not making that up), and then they don't make it easy. That guy is fighting a losing battle.

    Archaeology Courses

When I was in college (UConn), I took an archaeology class of the Connecticut River Valley, and I loved every minute of it. It was mostly all about the history of the people who lived there, what has been found on digs, and what is important in the findings. We only did one day of digging, and...

    Kayak Suggestions?

We saw a 10'-ish foot sit-on kayak at BJ's Warehouse yesterday for like $160 with a seat and paddles. Not too shabby.

Excellent sleuthing. I spent some time looking through field guides and online and just couldn't find it.

Bear shot in Essex County today :(

They did the same thing in Trenton last week. It's very upsetting. They darted it and transported it to a wildlife rehab center where they euthanized him.

Actually, a Google search tells me that I am wrong in my guess. Guess I'm even more clueless.

    Kayak Suggestions?

Thanks so much for posting this, Onehand, I really appreciate it. It was a great program, and really interesting to me as someone who grew up near the Meadowlands and who now lives on the edge of the Trenton Marsh. It makes me feel really good to see the very large impact of the environmental...

    Jeeper?

'03 Wrangler, modified to heck after this photo was taken. We have it out in the Pines most weekends (ONLY on the roads). Yesterday, I put my foot against the windshield while we were going over a particularly bumpy road, and I cracked the windshield. I hurt the Jeep. :(

    Kayak Suggestions?

I probably wouldn't opt for an inflatable unless I had very limited space to store it. I have heard many stories of them popping, which would definitely suck! :( They are clumsy to paddle and not comfortable for long trips, IME. You can get an affordable kayak at Dick's Sporting Goods or...

Those are beautiful photos. I am envious of your eye. That second photo of the spadefoot toad is nothing short of slendid. :)
