    Two years ago today...

We got nailed with the "super derecho". This was much worse than Hurricane Sandy in my area. http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/threads/here-comes-the-hot-weather.8394/page-2#post-99809

    Turkey time

This family visits me every day. If I sit quietly on the porch, they come pretty close. I counted a total of 13 chicks yesterday (are the babies called chicks?). Very cute, constantly going "peep peep peep". And they run very fast for such little birds.

    Shoobies

Was on Rt 49 a little after 10:30 this morning and traffic was already bumper to bumper Northbound all the way from Cumberland Pond up to Rt 55. Lots of unhappy looking people with no front license plates. Sure glad that I was heading South….

    Daylight savings time

Sure seems weird for the sun to be up until 7:00 PM, like winter came to an abrupt end. It's all good though. Yesterday I was on an international flight from Europe to Newark when the change happened. I had set my watch for Eastern time when we left - I always set my time to the destination...

    Project tango

This is very cool technology. But think of the privacy implications... They could now have a map of every room in your house, and watch you walk around it. :ninja: http://www.google.com/atap/projecttango/

    Slow site?

Anyone else notice a problem? It has been intermittent, but sometimes the page will take forever, or not load at all. Took me a few tries to post this thread. Has been like this all evening for me. Other sites seem to be fine though.

    Garmin Birdseye - version 2

There' been a lot of discussion recently about Garmin updating their Birdseye aerial imagery and people say it's a big improvement. Here in NJ, in the past they used the state's 2007-2008 Orthophotography (as seen here on NJPB Maps for example) however they reduced the resolution from the...

Garmin introduces the GPSMap 64 series

http://gpstracklog.com/2014/01/garmin-gpsmap-64-series.html The next generation in the evolution of the 60csx. There are some interesting things, like linking your iPhone to it and a GLONASS chipset (receives additional satellites for greater accuracy). But it still has the same very low...

    Shifting sands

My driveway is just a little sand road, and yesterday I was thinking it "felt" funny when I drove down it. Was even more noticeable today. There are normally two very well packed tire tracks down the length of the driveway. Well today, the sand was very soft, almost sugary in a couple spots - I...

    A Christmas Eve Mystery

What in the world is this, and where did it come from? Is it a Cicada maybe? It's about 1.25" long. I left my old laptop ripping DVD's in another room and went to check on it around 6:00PM. The the heat was off in the room and the temperature was in the low 60's but the laptop was very warm from...
