Military vehicle ban on state lands-was it ever enacted?

Hey all-it's been a while but I have a question that I know the NJPB.com can answer... Did the proposed rule on "military designed vehicles" go through? I ask because I have the opportunity to purchase one of these: It's a Dodge M37, basically a military version of the Power Wagon of the...

    Earliest marked graves in NJ?

Here's a question for Jerseyman and any other hardcore NJ history buffs. What would be the earliest known marked graves in NJ (ie: with some sort of headstone which survives today), where are they, and how back are we talking? According to my basic research, the Dutch began settling what is...

    Oil drilling in Plumstead/Jackson?

Ran across this little interesting tidbit recently-it's amazing what you can find when Google a question...

Tres Dept to Toyota: "Where did ISIS get all of those trucks?" Pot, meet kettle...

Well fellow Yota enthusiasts, apparently we're all now being labeled terrorists... Apparently the U.S. Treasury Department is very concerned about how many Toyotas they see in ISIS propaganda videos so they are now demanding to know how they got ahold of them... Nevermind the fact that they are...

    The good 'ol days...

Damn...I was looking for information on Greenwood Forest WMA and stumbled on this article from the Philadelphia Inquirer-1986: http://articles.philly.com/1986-05-27/news/26051586_1_pits-patrol-car-officers I always heard stories about some wild times back in the pines from my dad and my...

All Unpaved Roads in Stokes State Forest PERMANENTLY CLOSED

As per my conversation with a representative of the park about 5 minutes ago. This was done completely in the dark of night as there is no mention of it on their website, nor even a map available of what is still accessible. I'd like to say that I'm shocked by what the Division of Parks and...

Visit to Tuckerton Seaport and Baymen's Museum

Just got back from the annual week on LBI with the family. My daughter is still little (2.5) and we've got one on the way so we didn't get out on the bay in a boat for clamming/crabbing as I had hoped (hopefully next year), but we had some great days on the beach, caught some crabs from the...

    South shore of Atsion Lake

Is there a way to access the south shore of Atsion lake via Ephriam/Sandy Causeway Road? It looks as though you can turn left onto the unpaved continuation of Raritan Avenue in Atco and pick up one of a few different two tracks that lead to the lake. Just looking for an out of the way picnic...

Someone should reenact this commercial in the pines

Ironically I saw this the first time I turned on the TV after getting home from camping: Love the authentic late '70s/early '80s feel. It almost seems like the A-Team or Night Rider should be coming on after it's over.

    Walpack for the weekend

I'm sitting at my desk counting the days/hours until Saturday morning when I'll be heading up to the Kittatinnies with some old friends for a weekend of camping and exploring in and around the Delaware Water Gap. We'll be staying at Bear Creek Campground, which is basically an old farmstead...

Bing Maps vs. Google Maps imagery?

At least for the areas I tend to study the most (the NJ Highlands), I've begun to notice something. The imagery Bing maps has for the area was collected during the late fall or winter (no leaves on the trees), and the imagery Google has was taken during late spring or summer (full foliage)-is...

New Jersey Tax List Search-new mapping tool?

Someone sent this to me to help locate a piece of county land up here in Hunterdon County: http://njgin.state.nj.us/oit/gis/NJ_TaxListSearch/ Not sure if its been posted here or if others were aware of it, but it's a pretty nifty tool. Clicking on any parcel gives you the name and address...

Suzuki Samurai = ultimate pines vehicle?

The other day I was driving around and saw an old Suzuki Samurai for the first time in a long time. Dang those things are narrow! I looked them up on Wikipedia and found they are only 55" wide, which less than 10" wider than most quads and 13" narrower than a CJ-7, and it barely weighs...

Is it possible to be immune to chiggers?

I hear a lot of talk of chiggers on here but I swear I've never gotten them, and I've done my share of bushwhacking that's for sure. I've been lit up by mosquitos plenty of times and I get poison ivy just by looking at it, but I've never had chiggers even after trudging through some truly nasty...

It's not just the mudholes that can get you...

Yesterday I got up early and made a run to the county dump to get rid of some junk that had been hanging around the yard/in the garage. I had the dog with me so I thought I'd go check one of my local hunting spots, a small piece of WMA land (about 40 acres) about five minutes from home. It's...

    This ticks me off...

I post over on the Jersey forum of a Jeep site once in while just to see what people are up to/where they're going. The reason I got hooked into it in the first place was I stumbled across it while looking for information regarding unpaved roads up at Stokes/the DWG. I happened to go through a...

    NJPB maps and outsiders?

I had a question from someone on a hiking forum about where I got the screenshots I posted of topographic maps of some areas in North Jersey. I deliberately did not mention NJPB maps because I didn't know the protocol-I just snapped screenshots, uploaded them to photobucket, and posted them...

    Boyd's map legend question

Probably a stupid question, but can someone tell me the difference between these two roads? The paved road is outlined with the solid black line. The other road is outlined in solid beige/brown. I've been on the road outlined in solid black, and it is paved.
